Bicester Village Haul: DKNY and MAC

Whilst I was in Bicester Village and was bumping into all the shops I wasn’t interested in, I FINALLY went into a store called ‘The Cosmetics Company’, which little to my knowledge was an outlet store (which I should have known because Bicester Village is outlet central). I was so happy to see some amazing brands in there but obviously I was drawn to their MAC counter, where they had their limited edition collections at a discount! I wanted everything, but chose this..

My top 10 beauty tips

Starting with good skin, you need to use a face mask! If you don’t use an intensive treatment like a mask on your face at least once a week, your skin will look dull and blotchy thus, making your make up look the same!

20130412-120120.jpg

Also, I always exfoliate my skin! Whether its using a facial brush or my face wash (which comes with scrublets), I feel like exfoliating really helps make your skin look new.. Even if you’re not!

20130412-120209.jpg

Curl your lashes before you go to bed (when you have no make up on), before you apply mascara in the morning and after your mascara is 100% dry! It will really help to change the way your lashes grow and they’ll naturally start to curl!

20130412-120409.jpg

Always use nourishing treatment on your hair.. Even if its once a week. Using conditioner or oiling your hair will really help repair it. If you use heat regularly, you’re basically frying your hair.. Just like you would put a plaster on your skin to let it heal, your hair shouldn’t be treated any different!

20130412-120412.jpg

When shaping your eye brows.. Whether you tweeze, wax, thread or shave, fill them in like you do on a daily basis and then remove the hair around that shape. That way, you won’t over-pluck!

20130412-120620.jpg

Keep lip balms around you! In your pocket, handbag, desk, bedroom, downstairs, upstairs and even in your car! You always need lip balm when you don’t have it so buy a few and delegate them everywhere you hang out cause you can never have too over moisturised lips!

20130412-120624.jpg

With summer coming, most people will be wearing sandals a lot! You don’t have to use a tonne of money to buy a foot scrub or pumice stone! Go into your garden or park and find a brick (carefully smash its face in on the hard ground really subtly and casually) and use one of the pieces to scrub off your dead skin. Alternatively find a rough edged stone!

20130412-121002.jpg

Sometimes when I’m having a really bad day, I like to paint my nails only to notice my nails look chipped and horrible! Pushing your cuticals back with a blunt butter knife or the edge of a nail file will help to show a little more nail and makes your nail varnish and nails look so crisp and neat.. Who knew there was so much nail under those claws?

20130412-121008.jpg

This is gross.. But don’t be afraid to pick! That’s right.. I’m talking about spots! Most spots have heads (a gooey puss filled delicious centre) or a small hole in them! Those are the spots you should pick! Leaving them trapped under your skin makes them bigger and often hurt! Gently squeeze them out and then let your skin do the healing!

20130412-121431.jpg

If you want your teeth to be whiter, try to drink your hot drinks with a straw or before you brush your teeth! As soon as any dark liquid comes in contact with your teeth, it stains them which is a huge no- go in my books! Your smile should look bright and clean just like its essence!

20130412-121421.jpg

If you’re beautiful (which I think everyone is in their own individual way), embrace your natural beauty! I love seeing confident women out and about with little or no make up on without a care in the world! It’s empowering and a breath of fresh air!

KIKO Cosmetics haul/ review

20130407-124150.jpg

On the way back to my car when I went shopping on Saturday in Westfield White City, London, I saw a shop which had an amazing eye shadow palette right at the door! It was called KIKO! The shop looked like a softer and less edgier version of Inglot or MAC so I went in to take a closer look the shop and I was really impressed!

I think this shop originates from Milan, Italy and I was so impressed by the price and products, I picked up a few items which I am so happy with!

This eye shadow palette was the first thing I saw! The colours are beautiful and I love the way you can use them wet too as they are designed for that! The pinks are perfect for the spring/summer months! They had a neutral and darker palette too but I loved the versatility of this once. I could use the colours for face highlighters, blush, eye brows as well as eye shadow! They are really well pigmented and the packaging is super cute!

The next item I was were these eye liners which were only £3.90 each! That’s less than drug store prices! I had to pick up a few! I love the purple colour which has a purple/ pink glitter and the green looks really nice and subtle! The nib is a felt tip applicator and is so easy to use!

When I was paying at the till, I spotted this highlighter duo and when I swatched it on my hand, it was so creamy and pigmented! I know I’ll use this a lot for highlighting my brows and eyes on summer days so the light can show off the beautiful shimmer of the highlighter!

These four items came in at £31.60! Bargain!

My MAC make up collection

20120729-130134.jpg
I’m not the biggest fan of MAC, if i’m honest.. HOWEVER! Some of their products are truly unique. When i buy make up, I look for things that no other company has. Price isn’t so much of an issue for me as I have a wide mixture of low-end, mid-end and high-end brands. When i find something that is on offer or that i find is really good value for money, I snap it up! But i’m not afraid to spend a little on something, too.

I was thinking about what brand to show my collection of and chose MAC cause i have the perfect amount of products to do a decent sized post on and also.. Cause i think i have some of their staple pieces! Matched with the fact that they are available worldwide WOO!

HERE IT GOESSSSSSS.

  • MAC Studio Tech Foundation which i have in NC20 and NW30. I don’t tan.. It’s a curse i know and i like to give the illusion that i am. So i keep the lighter shade for the winter and mix them both together in the summer for a healthy glow. I’m not a cool tone or warm tone and so sometimes with MAC, i end up getting 2 foundations :( The foundation i have in the compact form and it ‘s lovely! I think blending it in with your fingers works the best though as it is so creamy it needs a little help or doesn’t sink into your skin well but it’s the perfect coverage and looks flawless!
  • MAC Matchmaster Foundation and i’m in 1.0 and this is more like it MAC! Finally, a mixture of both NC and NW and this colour is fantastic! The foundation is creamy and can sometimes feel quite heavy too.. but it you mix it with a bit of your primer or face cream.. it’s a dream!
  • MAC Studio Fix Foundation which i have in NW25 and it is way too dark for me! The foundation however is really thick so using a light hand, i use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush and buff it onto my skin and it looks really nice. It’s good in summer cause it’s matte and with a little the natural oils that gather in your face in the heat, it goes dewy. That’s another thing about me.. I don’t like dewy foundations in summer because as you “perspire” you get so much oil and sweat on your face you look like a disco ball! So i use a matte or powder foundation cause its a neutral balance :)
  • MAC Lustre Drops… Highlight… AMAZING… In foundation or on cheek bones. I got Pink Rebel.. What else can i say.. It’s as good as everyone says it to be. Because its cream.. It won’t fall all over your cheeks or smudge.. It’ll set and looks brilliant. And they have some amazing shades
  • MAC LIPSTICKS! I LOVE! Their formulas are amazing, creamy and long lasting and their smell! I LOVE THAT SMELL! I only have a few but thats only because i get so overwhelmed by their zillions of colours! Angel, shy girl, sequin, faux, impassioned, patisserie are some of my faves! Sequin’s a weird one but i really like it on me! Its like a copper brown colour. I’ve always wanted a brown but never found one that looked good on me. a dupe for sequin is Clinique Bamboo Pink which is almost identical!
  • MAC Blushes! I go against the norm by choosing their powder blushes over their cream blushes. Cream blushes just don’t last on me AT ALL! I chose Pink Swoon, Frankly Scarlet and Desert Rose. These are super pigmented apart from Pink Swoon which is a sheer tone blush so for SUPER PALE people or when you want just a light dusting of colour. MAC blushes are by far my favourite and Frankly Scarlet is my favourite of all time because one little dab in the pan and you’re done for both cheeks!

When i got into MAC, no one ever used to mention the prices of the products and nor do they have them listed at the counters. Their foundations range from £16 – £29 so, more than high street but think about Bourjois who have their Healthy Mix range at £11.99! FOR DRUGSTORE!?!?!

Lustre drops are £17.50 so VERY HIGH END for a highlighter. But Benefits infamous High Beam and Moon Beam are around the same too!

Lipsticks are £13.50 and the most staple pieces you could find. Spend the extra money and get them because i think they’re just FABULOUS!

Mac Blushes are $17.50 and this is a lot for a blush. But if you choose a super rich colour that is very pigmented (like most of the MAC range is), you’ll get your money’s worth because the product lasts you so long!

Here’s the MAC site! you can get MAC from Debenhams, John Lewis, MAC stores, Selfridges, Fenwicks, House of Fraser and online!

Debenhams are doing duty free prices on all their beauty products at the moment and MAC online have free shipping on orders over £30! So take advantage my fellow Make Up Addicts!

The cruel face of ‘beauty’

This is about to be a full blown rant about a fully stupid yet highly influential topic:

A woman’s image.

Ok! Let’s start!
Today I was reading the paper during my lunch break when I came across an article about a model called Karlie Kloss. It read: Move over, Elle: Karlie Kloss is hailed the new ‘Body’ as she poses nude for Vogue.

I was shocked! How could this skinny, scrawny naked model be called acceptable by publishers, to be placed in a newspaper? I was amazed at the nudity to start with. As someone who covers her modesty from head to toe, to see this was an exposure to the max!!!!!! I know how images can be ‘tasteful‘ but nude models in fashion doesn’t make sense to me? Surely if it’s a FASHION magazine, shouldn’t she be wearing clothes? Somewhere along the line, fashion is now one word: Topshop. Anything sold at TopShop is deemed as the latest trend. But just a few years ago, a fashionable girl was someone who made a unique and workable sense of style. Now it seems as though; messy hair, baggy cardigan, tight leggings and chunky boots is all that Is deemed as trendy.

So yeah, Kloss is completely naked and Daily Mail have claimed that she has a built body? I highly doubt 6 ribs showing replaces a 6 pack of abs! For a newspaper that is always documenting serious consequences of children feeling pressured to look a certain way and not achieving that goal, I’m surprised. Then again I’m not. Daily mail isn’t exactly known as the most ‘culturally diverse‘ magazine: I’ve read the snide remarks about Muslims and Islam and often the blatant disrespect to them. But I thought at stuff like modelling, they’d have some success at leading the right path.

I’ve noticed how news is always bad nowadays and you never read anything good happening in the world. But then to say that a boney model is a ‘must-have’ body, just seems wrong to me. No wonder so many children get bullied these days for not looking a certain way. And because of that, the child suicide rate is climbing too. Just look at Rosey Huntington- Whitely and so many other models who say that they were bullied for their looks and now they’re models. This pressure that is put on women to look a certain way, Not for men, but for the benefit of other women.. Just to show that you are well groomed and look after yourself. Unacceptable.

I’m upset to say the least that this is what it’s come to. To have a beautiful woman have expose herself, or have to lose weight or do anything that doesn’t make her feel herself, is what she HAS to do to fit in. It’s like childbirth is something a woman HAS to accept doing at one point in her life.. Being modelesque is now another.

I think women should be whatever they want! Yeah I cover up, but that’s cause I know underneath that I’m HOT! I’m not being big headed but I am. I naturally like good food and am quitehealthy lifestyle- wise so I’m blessed. But I don’t feel the need to show it off. If I wear baggy clothes and look fat on the outside, I don’t care! At the end of the day, I’m happy with myself. If anything I’m more conscious of my body, cause they say: “you are your worst critic“, so I nit pick at tiny imperfections! But only up to the point where it feels right! If short hair is in, but I think I look good in long, that hair won’t go near a scissor!

I’m not fat and I’m not skinny and I don’t limit myself to looking a certain way. I do my make up how I feel like and I wear what clothes I feel comfortable in. I think every woman should be the same! So be strong! Be brave! If you want to wear all the colours of the rainbow on your face: DO IT! If that is you, then be you!

Wake up every morning, look in the mirror and say:

I Love Myself
