Fe-Blog-Uary Day 15 – Highlighter Smackdown

When it comes to highlighters, I am not seen without it these days! It’s a life saver during the winter when your skin looks dull and dry and you need a pick-me-up on your face so that you don’t look like you’re drying up rapido!

20140213-004656.jpg

However, is it worth getting a high end highlighter when there are so many other alternatives in the drug store? Let’s take a look at two of of my favourite highlighters which I use alternatively everyday to see which one comes out on top!

20140213-004711.jpg

Sleek Contour Kit in ‘Medium’ £6.49 (0.48oz)
When I first bought this product from Sleek, I got it for the brown powder for contouring however, I’ve since ditched the other side and have completely fallen in love with the highlighter that comes with it! An amazing goldy-nude powder highlighter which is so buttery and smooth to apply, that it makes your skin look like you’re glowing from within!

Benefit Watt’s Up – £24.50 (0.33oz)
I have a sample of this that I received in a book of theirs and ever since I have bought it, I can’t stop using it! I constantly reach for this because it’s so easy to apply from the stick and because it’s cream and mega easy to blend! It’s a beautiful yellowy-gold which catches the light just right and makes you look almost like you’re made out of plastic.. Fantastic!

20140213-004833.jpg

Let’s judge these amazing highlighters on three grounds:
Price
The Sleek Contour Kit comes cheaper and with another product within its packaging too! Obviously being drug store, it would be cheaper so those with a smaller budget should avoid going for the dearer Benefit Watt’s Up because it would create quite a big dent in ye olde purse!

20140213-004926.jpg

Product
The Sleek highlighter is smooth to apply and clings to brushes like it’s magnetised! It’s really easy to blend and feels almost buttery even though it’s a powder! It’s easy to access from within the packaging and the packaging is generally really really nice and sturdy coming with a decent sized mirror for ease of application!

The Benefit highlighter is a gorgeous creamy texture and again blends effortlessly! It has an easy twist up tube like mechanism which means it stays secure and safe and you don’t need to faff with brushes! It’s really nice to travel with too because of its nice little size (as mine is a sample size).

Results
The Sleek highlighter leaves a really nice glow to the skin which looks as though you’re glowing from within! It’s not artificial in any way! It is a little more pink toned which makes it noticeable but it doesn’t look off or awkward on my skin tone at all! Generally, there’s a strong glitter running through it but it looks like a sheen to the cheek when it’s actually on the face!

20140213-004932.jpg

The Benefit highlighter is really nice to just swipe on and looks like a super high shine effect on the face! People would mistake your face for looking wet, were it not for the fact the rest of your face is dry! It looks really natural on the skin and because the glitter running through it is yellow and orange toned, this would suit anyone! It’s a really nice loud yet easy to wear highlighter

The Verdict
All things considered, I’d have to say that the Sleek Highlighter is just too good to be true! I think I’m more surprised than anything because this product isn’t mainly about the highlighter, it’s about the contour colour however, it’s changed my makeup routine! For the value, it doesn’t get better and because it looks so darn good on my skin tone, no matter where I am in my tanning cycle, it fits in with my everyday skin tone! The Benefit lacks in value for me because there seems to have been more money soent on the packaging then the product, which frustrates me from a high end brand! The product is really good and by no means rubbish, however, I think I like the ease of it all because I don’t need brushes or anything! Although it’s quite plastic like, I feel as though most people would stray from it because it is so high-shine and is so expensive, it’s a true investment!

Have you tried any of these highlighters? What highlighter is your favourite?

July Glossy Box

20130713-220332.jpg

I received my July Glossy Box this month and loved it so much, I thought I’d share what I received, with you!

20130713-220412.jpg

So this months, theme was Summer Splash and my oh my, were the products ready for summer!

The first product is this gorgeous nail varnish from Ciate (the first Ciate product for me) and its in this shade called The Glossip. It’s a lovely coral orange colour perfect for these summer days! It looks lovely with a nice light golden tan! The colour looks fabulous with one thick coat and I love the packaging too!

20130713-220502.jpg

The next product is this Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves tousled texture mist!! What a mouthful! I tried this as soon as I got it because it says to apply to damp hair and I had just washed mine! It’s supposed to give you nice beach waves that look effortless. When I applied it, the spray isn’t really a misty haze, more of a semi-squirt which wasn’t that appealing! Then once it had gone in my hair, it felt so strange! Almost like my hair didn’t want to dry because the product was on it. It became frizzy and in areas where I had sprayed a little too close, the spray had collected to form a kind of oily/dampish area which was unusual! I don’t know if it didn’t work on my hair but my barnet has never rejected any product before so I’d be surprised! My hair never really curled at all and although in the areas where I sprayed it too close, my hair had texture, I was unimpressed by this product.

20130713-220517.jpg

I then gravitated towards this product by Anatomicals called Spray Misty for me Facial Spritz! They always have the most quirky names and descriptions on the back! This is supposed to be a facial spray which helps to cool your face leaving you refreshed and glowing! I tried this myself.. Didn’t really notice a difference and then tried it on my mum! My mum was in the kitchen cooking at the time so was very hot and my mum sweats a lot too (cause she drinks a horse full of water everyday). And she said after applying the mist, she never sweat at all! She looked radiant and glowing a few minutes after the spray set in and she loves the smell of lavender! My mum gives it a 6/10!

20130713-220525.jpg

This product is a must for everybody in summer in my eyes.. SPF! Face COOLA classic sunscreen! It’s the cucumber scent and is very refreshing on the skin! Unlike most sunscreens, this never felt sticky at all and really just glided on and then disappeared into my skin. The product wasn’t too thick and didn’t feel sticky at all so I really like this!

20130713-220549.jpg

I’ve truly saved the best until last! These are the Sleek Pout Paints and there are two that come in the Glossy Box! A beautiful bright pink called Pinkini (go on my Instagram to see the Instavideo I did on this) and a gorgeous orange in the shade Lava. I tried this straight away and I loved the way they liked on my lips! Because they’re stains, they don’t budge so I’m tempted to use them on my cheeks too! They’re supposed to mix-able with other colours so some people received silver or blue but you can create your own shades! I’m glad I got the two shades I did though, because I don’t want to live without them now! I previously bought one if these in the shade Minx and was a little disappointed by the colour! It’s UBER pigmented but because they’re oil based, they separate when you don’t use then for a little while.. All the more reason to rock a bright lip everyday!

Sleek Candy Collection Make Up

20130611-180915.jpg

If you guys have seen my make up collection post or follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I LOVE SLEEK EYESHADOWS (I have almost all of them!)

20130611-181156.jpg

So when they came out with a Limited Edition collection, I couldn’t say no!

The collection consists on their usual 12 colour eyeshadow palette in Candy, Blush by 3 in Sweet Cheeks and Pout Paint in LOL-Lip-Pop (clever, ehy?)

20130611-181010.jpg

The eyeshadow palette consists of 12 eyeshadows ranging in matte, shimmer and pearl finishes! As with all Sleek eyeshadows, the pigmentation and colour range is FANTASTIC! Considering the whole palette comes in at £7.99, even if you only like 1 shade, it’s cheaper to buy this whole palette than a single MAC eyeshadow (even in pan form)!

20130611-181018.jpg

20130611-181022.jpg
I love the pink and purple shades and the shimmer colours are just the right intensity. I find that some brands have shimmer eyeshadows which fade in colour and leave an awkward glitter after them but not with Sleek shadows.. They last on your skin for a long time and fade off beautifully. This palette has not failed to impress me.

20130611-181148.jpg

If I could change anything about this palette, I would have liked to have seen a brown rather than black (perhaps to represent Cola Bottles). Mint Cream and Apple Sour are too similar and there are 3 green toned colours in the palette.. Which they could have swapped with a yellow (to represent banana candy) and because it is limited edition.. How about a pan with 2 colours in it? That would be fantastic too! Just all suggestions for improvement or individuality from other brands!

This Blush by 3 palette is definitely different to what we’re used to because it hosts a cream blush! The colours couldn’t be more vibrant and I love the way they used 3 blushes rather than their individual ones and it costs £9.99 for all three! I love Sleek blushes because of their unique colour range!

20130611-181250.jpg

The cream is so pigmented and isn’t a Cream to Powder formula so is fantastically dewy and has a glow- like finish on the skin perfect for the summer time! The middle colour in the shade Dolly Mix is my favourite because I love purple shades!

20130611-181255.jpg

20130611-181301.jpg

I love Sleek packaging because of its sleek look (oh I see where the name comes from now)! The applicator isn’t something that I’d use for eye makeup but I love using these for nail art!

Sleek are available in Superdrug in the UK and they also have a website where they deliver internationally.

You can buy their collection here.

April Beauty Favourites!

20130429-214614.jpg

I’ve been blogging everyday during the month of April and I’ve mentioned some of the beauty essentials that I’ve been loving but here’s a post collectively showing you all the products!

The biggest change for me has been foundation! I’ve had Nars Sheer Glow for ages but recently I’ve been using it mixed with moisturiser and by itself (when I want more coverage). I love the colour, how it feels and how it looks!

20130429-214642.jpg

20130429-214646.jpg
** Nars Sheer Glow- Light 4 Deauville

Whenever I use foundation, I have to contour my face and this product has saved my life! I love using it to contour my cheekbones, jawline, temples as well as my nose and even crease! This colour is perfect for me during summer!

20130429-214632.jpg

20130429-214637.jpg
** Sleek Face Contour Kit- Medium

When I’m not using foundation I’ve been using my Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder! This is a full coverage foundation but during these warmer months, wearing a powder helps set the face! This colour is perfect and it helps make your skin look flawless!

20130429-214656.jpg

20130429-214701.jpg
** Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder- Real Sands

I recently done a blog post in this MUA eyeshadow palette saying how similar it was to the Urban Decay Naked Palette! This is such good value for money and I’ve been loving a neutral eye for the days when I don’t want to wear much on my eyes but still want to look made up!

20130429-214706.jpg

20130429-214709.jpg
** MUA- Undressed

Instead of using winged eyeliner, I’ve been using my KIKO Super Colour Eyeliner on my bottom lash line! I love how fine the felt too applicator is and the colours are so vivid! They look fantastic as a pop of colour to the face!

20130429-214714.jpg

20130429-214719.jpg
** KIKO Super Colour Eye Liners

MAC Pink Swoon was the first ever blush I bought from MAC! And I’ve loved it since I ever got it! It’s a lovely sheer pink colour that is buildable.. Although it doesn’t last all day! I love the look it gives your skin and I think it would suit any skin colouring!

20130429-214724.jpg

20130429-214728.jpg
** MAC- Pink Swoon

I’ve never been one for highlighters but I’m going eyebrow crazy lately! A well kept eye brow really does make a well kept face! I love the cream to powder formula and the highlighting end is a perfect colour for highlighting your eyebrow arch, inner corner and even cheekbones!

20130429-214736.jpg
** KIKO- Perfect Eyes Highlighting Duo

I’ve loved blogging everyday during April and I’d like to thank everyone who’s kept up! I’ll be back soon with more!

Beauty products I’m disappointed with

These are the products which have disappointed me after I’ve tried them! I’ve tried them for quite a while and in as many ways as I can and it just ain’t happening!

Benefit They’re Real!
Everyone says such good things about this mascara but I don’t understand why! It works really well at lengthening but it does nothing for volume at all for me! I always have to use a volumising mascara! I thing the formula of the mascara would work better with a bristle brush rattan than a plastic one! I love the spikes on the end to get the inner corners of the lashes though.. When this tube finishes I’m going to use the brush for other mascaras!

20130429-114803.jpg

Sleek Blush by 3- Pink Spirit
I’ve used this for as long as the product has been out and it’s not all of the shades I dislike! Just this one and the only reason is because the two colours (??) are completely identical.. Almost! The payoff and colours are lovely though! It would just be nice for the colours to be a little different to each other!

20130429-114808.jpg

Body Shop- Ginger Shampoo
This is supposed to an anti- dandruff shampoo because ginger has those qualities. I found it mega drying on my hair though! It just seemed to itch my hair and caused me to flake (even when I wasn’t before- I was trying to use it as a defence before I got dandruff in winter)! I like the smell though and I suppose if you have MEGA oily hair, it will help sort out the mane!

20130429-114823.jpg

L’oreal Caresse Shine Stains- Romy 102
Again.. It’s the colour! It’s a lovely pink colour but I just found the actual shade to be different than the packaging shows! I like the formula (although it doesn’t last all day) but I’m sure the other colours are good as everyone raves about these! I’ll be sure to get another shade and tell you what I think!

20130429-114813.jpg

GOSH BB Corrector kit- Light
This has to be the most disappointing product of all of my collection! This concealer kit is supposed to have BB qualities and comes with 3 products, an underage & blemish concealer as well as a highlighter. I found the products to be too watery and they did nothing! The highlighter was the worse! I think I’ll just scoop some of this into my moisturiser for a tint on the ‘natural make up’ days!

20130429-114831.jpg

Benefit Cha Cha Tint
This tint is more of a gel consistency rather than a liquid and I love the texture. I’m not too sure of the product though! I found that it stuck to my face wherever I first placed it and it dried as soon as it touches skin so I couldn’t blend it! For the price.. A NO NO!

20130429-114837.jpg

Vichy- Idealeá
This cream.. CRAP

March beauty favourites!

20130401-121926.jpg

With the wonderful month of March back, I’m getting into the full spirit of Spring and there’s a few staple products that I’ve been using during last month! So I thought for the first day of Blogging April, I’d show you my beauty favourites!

Revlon Grow Luscious mascara is my favourite mascara for this month! It takes me around 2 months to finish off a mascara and I’ve been using this one on and off for the past 6 months! I opened it and instantly disliked it but after a week or two of using it I was like: “WOW”! This really does help to make your lashes look naturally longer! I’d suggest letting it dry out for a few months before using it because it feels very strange and unusually wet at first! The brush is HUGE too which causes a lot of mess on your eyelids but makes application so much quicker!

20130401-005501.jpg

20130401-005347.jpg

20130401-005508.jpg

Too Faced Shadow Insurance has been the best eye shadow primer I’ve used so far! I used Urban Decay Primer Potion for a little while and found that it felt the exact same as this one! But Too Faced lasts SOOO much longer during the day! I love using it by itself to stop my eyelids from getting oily and it does a fantastic job!

20130401-005715.jpg

20130401-121915.jpg

Essie Muchi Muchi has been a must in my books! It’s the perfect soft and pastel pink for Spring! If you love your nails looking clean and natural without doing French tips, this nail varnish is the one for you! You can do so much with this in terms of nail art too!

20130401-122209.jpg

20130401-122213.jpg

20130401-122408.jpg

Sleek have my favourite eye shadow palettes by when they released their Blush by Three blushers, I grabbed the one I knew I’d use the most in Pink Spirit. The colours are as vivid as they look in the camera and all of the colours look fantastic however, I think the first and last colours look a little too similar when on the cheek.. But I like the fact you can use those two colours as contours and blushers and its a perfect 2 in 1 colour!

20130401-005921.jpg

20130401-005939.jpg

20130401-122055.jpg

Bioderma has been a staple in my cleansing routine! It takes off make up effortlessly and makes the end of a hard day that little bit easier! Happy days! It’s readily available in French Chemists and not so much in England but the rumour is, it’ll be arriving soon! It’s inexpensive and so effective even though it feels like water! A must!

An everyday eye look!

Ok so today, I was getting ready and had a really nice smokey eye on! A lot of people complimented me on it and I thought I’d recreate it :)

Start off with cleaning your eye kids with a cleanser, bioderma or even a wet wipe! Believe me.. This will help your eye shadow blend and last much longer!

20121230-201036.jpg

Apply your eye shadow primer. I use a dab of Too Faced Shadow Insurance which I squish between my fingers and apply on each eyelid.

20121230-201042.jpg

20121230-201049.jpg

I’m then going to use a blusher.. On my eyes! Nars Orgasm is a great colour for winter on the eyes! Its a pink with a gold shimmer.. rose gold! You can use your finger to blend it or even a flat and stiff brush!

20121230-201110.jpg

20121230-201126.jpg

Dupe: Sleek Oh So Special palette has a lovely dupe!

20121230-201121.jpg

20121230-201103.jpg

I then clean off the same brush a bit with a wet wipe and dab the brush on the back of my hand to remove excess fluid. I then dip the brush into a medium- dark brown like the one in the same Sleek palette. Most of the sleek palettes have the same colour in them.

20121230-202002.jpg

I apply this on the outer corner of my eye. I build it up slowly to get my chosen amount of shade. Tip** only follow your eye lid shape/ space. Creating a new crease, over reaching, FAKING will not look very nice and it will be obvious it’s not Yo lid Yo!

20121230-201138.jpg

20121230-201142.jpg

Blend each time you add a new layer as it makes it easier to see whether you’ve applied enough. I applied about 3 layers to get this shade..

20121230-201146.jpg

Whatever product is left on the brush, smudge under your eye.

I like to end by using the same blending brush to apply a little more of the rose gold colour to my lid as it adds a more intense colour and blends nicely.

20121230-201209.jpg

Mascara those lids up!

20121230-201221.jpg

And you’re done!!!
