Disappointing products of 2013

20140121-223327.jpg

Although 2013 was a good year for my beauty regime, there were a few beauty products which did let me down a bit! This isn’t to say that they wouldn’t work on other people, but I thought it would be good to show what products don’t suit me!

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Fresh & Flirty Blush – £4.99

20140121-224250.jpg
* When I got this dry shampoo, I was hoping that it would help with ‘hijab hair’ that us Hijabi’s get after wearing a scarf all day! It’s superb at adding a bit of volume and reviving limp hair but it left an AWFUL white cast on my hair! I looked like an old lady! I know they do a spray specifically for brunette’s, so I may just have to try that!

Topshop Cream Blush – Afternoon Tea – £6

20140121-224352.jpg
* With this product, I was so excited to try if after I had bought it because I loved the colour, however, I should have known better! Cream blushes and me have a notorious relationship because they don’t last on me unless I set them with a powder! This was the only cream blush I got this year but I feel as though although its cream-to-powder formulation, it does nothing and wears off momentarily! Was a waste of money to be honest!

Bobbi Brown Corrector – Bisque – £18.50

20140121-224422.jpg
* This was actually more of an impulse purchase which didn’t work out! I was with someone who said they swear by it and because I had heard so much about it, I was crazy to try it however, it took me ages to figure out what colour I was, how to apply it and now.. To finish it! It’s really cakey and thick and also I feel as though the shade is off! It creases really badly and when I try to set it, it makes my under eyes look dry.. Very strange product for me!

Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner – Black – £12

20140121-224507.jpg
* This was one of the first ever products I have tried from Eyeko! I was so excited to try it because I loved using my L’Oreal Perfect Slim eyeliner and really got into the felt tip eyeliner method! However, this was really dry the second time I used it even though I stored it nib face down! It’s really black and has a good applicator but the product was just dry and really hard to revive! It was so dry, it was tugging at my eyes! I’m don’t know if I got a bad one or whether they’re all bad however, I’m still open to trying Eyeko products.. No hard feelings!

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Extreme Plump Pucker – Pink Out Loud – £10

20140121-224526.jpg
* When it comes to lipgloss, last year was a big shiny mess for me! I tried so many glosses ranging from £1 to £20 and by far and beyond, I was disappointed the most by this one! It is Soooooooo strong, it made my lips feel like I had had anaesthetic injections in them! It was really painful and I didn’t feel as though my lips had changed in the slightest in size! When I apply it on top of lipstick, I can’t tell I even have gloss on! It’s a nice colour and has a good finish and pigment, but it’s hard to wear!

Essie Nail Varnish – Russian Roulette – £7.99

20140121-224550.jpg
* This nail varnish colour is AMAZING! I love this red because it’s a true red and not orange nor blue toned! It looks good on any skin tone and is so beautiful to apply! It has a big brush and the colour is super pigmented BUT it stains my nails SOOOOO bad! It took me months to grow out the colour because it just wouldn’t fade off! I never applied a base coat but the staining was so bad, I’m not sure if an average base coat would protect my nails! It’s like war paint!

Autumn beauty favourites

I love me some cold weather, hence why you’ll notice a lot of blog posts about the weather this time of year! I like to stick to some staple pieces throughout autumn and here they are:

20131101-180449.jpg

20131101-180459.jpg
Avon super shock gel eyeliner ‘Blackberry’ – £6
When it comes to eyeliner, I’m the Queen! I have tonnes of colours and it’s my ‘go-to’ for when I want to add colour to my face! I like using black but during autumn, I like to use a slightly more warmer colour and a deep red is perfect for that. I have brown eyes, so using brown and red tones compliments them a lot and oxblood, maroon and scarlet are the top autumn colours! This eyeliner is so long lasting and it’s super pigmented! It’s actually a really deep purple colour with intense red glitter in it hence the shade- blackberry. Has superb lasting time and is super pigmented too! I love using this on the waterline and smudging into my top lashes when I want extra smoke (as shown in image above).

20131102-170321.jpg

20131102-170501.jpg
Accessorize Merged Baked Blusher ‘Scandal’ – £5
** Currently not available on their website
When I first purchased this blusher Miss. A one day, I knew if love it! It’s a gorgeous metallic-looking dusty pink! I applied it to my cheeks when I was quite tanned and to be honest, it was almost invisible. Then when I tried using it as my tan wore off, it began to look better and better! It has a gorgeous sheen which doesn’t look like glitter at all and is so pigmented.. Even though it’s baked, it has a lot of depth to it and isn’t a flat colour! It’s smooth to apply and although I first thought it wouldn’t look good as a blusher on darker skin, it adds a gorgeous glow when used as a highlight! I love this stuff and because it’s so valuable, I love it even more! It’s perfect for adding a glow to your skin during the drier months!

20131102-171414.jpg

20131102-171533.jpg
Maybelline Forever Strong Pro ‘Midnight Red’ – £4.09
Ok let’s just appreciate how beautiful this nail varnish is! I love it for adding a bit of colour to the hands! It’s really long lasting and lasts like a gel meaning it doesn’t chip at all and had a high gloss finish! I really like the brush and colour pay off, too! It’s as cheap as chips and Maybelline is available in any country.. WOOHOO!

20131102-180722.jpg

20131102-180754.jpg
Bourjois Shine Edition ’23’ – £7.99
When this range of lipsticks came out, I was so excited to try a few and I grabbed them as soon as I can! The colours I chose were very autumnal and this one is by far and beyond, one of my favourites! I really like red and purple tones and this combines both if my loves! It really is shiny and has a real glossy look to it on your lips. It’s super pigmented and all thought not very long lasting, it is super easy to top up! It’s good value for money and they have a great colour range too.. Definitely one to check out!

20131102-181549.jpg

20131102-181601.jpg
MAC Sheertone Blush ‘Breath of Plum’ – £18
I like bright blushers and I definitely cannot have a face without it! So when I saw this shade earlier on this year, I knew I’d love using it in autumn! It’s sheer, so isn’t a strong rush of purple colour which would look odd and so adds a deep colour without looking dark! It’s a good change from the bright shades because deep colours look better on pale and cold looking skin! It’s soft to touch and is super finely milled colour.. Superb!

20131102-182122.jpg

20131102-182132.jpg
KIKO Eyeshadow ‘133’ – £1.99
When I bought this eyeshadow, I wanted to use it as a blending colour when doing dark smokey eyes, but I love it so much as a smokey shade alone, it’s become a staple for autumn for me! It’s a deep burgundy colour with a copper undertone! It looks super nice mixed with the Avon eyeliner, and it matches so well! It is really pigmented and is soft and smooth to blend! I love this shade for autumn heaps and bounds!

20131102-183725.jpg

20131102-183746.jpg
Real Techniques ‘Expert Face’ Brush – £9.99
The hype of Real Techniques brushes is so high at the moment and it’s evident why when you use this brush! It’s a dense and stuff synthetic brush which is slightly oval shape! It’s so good to use with cream products and heavy powdering! Apply blush, highlighter, bronzer, contour, foundation, concealer and even powder with this brush and your makeup will look flawless! It’s as cheap as chips and lasts so well even after washing! I love using this brush as much as possible and for most of the face products listed above, this brush works perfectly!

My top 10 beauty tips

Starting with good skin, you need to use a face mask! If you don’t use an intensive treatment like a mask on your face at least once a week, your skin will look dull and blotchy thus, making your make up look the same!

20130412-120120.jpg

Also, I always exfoliate my skin! Whether its using a facial brush or my face wash (which comes with scrublets), I feel like exfoliating really helps make your skin look new.. Even if you’re not!

20130412-120209.jpg

Curl your lashes before you go to bed (when you have no make up on), before you apply mascara in the morning and after your mascara is 100% dry! It will really help to change the way your lashes grow and they’ll naturally start to curl!

20130412-120409.jpg

Always use nourishing treatment on your hair.. Even if its once a week. Using conditioner or oiling your hair will really help repair it. If you use heat regularly, you’re basically frying your hair.. Just like you would put a plaster on your skin to let it heal, your hair shouldn’t be treated any different!

20130412-120412.jpg

When shaping your eye brows.. Whether you tweeze, wax, thread or shave, fill them in like you do on a daily basis and then remove the hair around that shape. That way, you won’t over-pluck!

20130412-120620.jpg

Keep lip balms around you! In your pocket, handbag, desk, bedroom, downstairs, upstairs and even in your car! You always need lip balm when you don’t have it so buy a few and delegate them everywhere you hang out cause you can never have too over moisturised lips!

20130412-120624.jpg

With summer coming, most people will be wearing sandals a lot! You don’t have to use a tonne of money to buy a foot scrub or pumice stone! Go into your garden or park and find a brick (carefully smash its face in on the hard ground really subtly and casually) and use one of the pieces to scrub off your dead skin. Alternatively find a rough edged stone!

20130412-121002.jpg

Sometimes when I’m having a really bad day, I like to paint my nails only to notice my nails look chipped and horrible! Pushing your cuticals back with a blunt butter knife or the edge of a nail file will help to show a little more nail and makes your nail varnish and nails look so crisp and neat.. Who knew there was so much nail under those claws?

20130412-121008.jpg

This is gross.. But don’t be afraid to pick! That’s right.. I’m talking about spots! Most spots have heads (a gooey puss filled delicious centre) or a small hole in them! Those are the spots you should pick! Leaving them trapped under your skin makes them bigger and often hurt! Gently squeeze them out and then let your skin do the healing!

20130412-121431.jpg

If you want your teeth to be whiter, try to drink your hot drinks with a straw or before you brush your teeth! As soon as any dark liquid comes in contact with your teeth, it stains them which is a huge no- go in my books! Your smile should look bright and clean just like its essence!

20130412-121421.jpg

If you’re beautiful (which I think everyone is in their own individual way), embrace your natural beauty! I love seeing confident women out and about with little or no make up on without a care in the world! It’s empowering and a breath of fresh air!

I like all kinds of smells! Mature like VB, floral like SJP and sweet like Nina Ricci (that all rhymes :))! I think different smells make you feel different things! Web I get out the shower, theres nothing I like better than choosing hitch scent to wear that evening.. Delightful!

Hints and tips*

  • If you have short and rounded fingers whereby you find your wear a Large size ring however the tips of your fingers go skinnier and you have short nails, avoid going for large and cocktail style rings. Instead, opt for smaller and more delicate rings! Don’t worry thought.. Add a bit of drama by going for bold colours and intricate designs. You know those rings that come in stacks of 3s, 4s, 5s etc.. Go for them and wear them individually! Visit ASOS and they have a large variety with gorgeous designs
  • If you have long and skinny fingers and you find that most rings are big for you, go for large and bold rings which will widen out your hands a bit and make them look fuller. You’re actually at an advantage though cause most ring types will look fantastic on you. If you do wish to go for something elegant and small, try to paint your nails a bold colour and this will enhance the simple design of your jewellery.
  • If you have Medium sized fingers but quite a lot of skin on your fingers, don’t go for small designs at all as often, rings can look too tight on your fingers and I’ve seen so many people with red and painful looking hands because their rings don’t fit them. Go for mid sized rings with a pattern, design, large stone etc as these will compliment your lovely fingers more.
  • MAKE SURE YOUR NAILS ARE CLEAN! I always ensure my hands are clean and have a nail file attached to my keys, in my make up bag, in my car and my bedroom, so there is no excuse for my hands to have anything dirty on them.
  • If you find you have stained fingers from nail varnish colours such as a red and pink, dip your fingers in a centimetre of nail varnish remover for 20 seconds. If you have painful skin around your fingers, cuts or grazes or your finger nails are brittle.. Avoid this completely as it’s not worth the pain. Just scrub them VERY gently with a dish scourer when you wash the dishes next :)

Hands are a gorgeous part of a woman! No matter how insecure you feel about your face, body or weight, your hands are what you use every day in your life with interaction whilst talking, touching, interacting.. EVERYTHING! All hands are gorgeous and you can make your hands look nice without having to spend thousands of pounds and dollars on them.. Don’t just make them look good for yourself but see the reaction of your other half. Every time I have a nice nail varnish colour on my nails, Mr. A always compliments them and can’t resist giving my hands a feel. Wearing rings and jewellery is just another way to enhance them.. HAPPY DAYS!

THE RULE IS SIMPLE.. Just treat them clean and keep them keen!

Summer make up routine high end…

Continuation from my previous post! Here’s my high end:

  • Definitely need a bit of Chanel somewhere so why not start from the base! Foundation has to be Vitalumiere Aqua cause it’s BRILLIANT! Gives a dewy finish and is very light and wearable during summer!
  • Who needs concealer when Benefit have their Lemon aid! This is meant to be a eye shadow primer but I thinks works really well as a colour corrector too! Concealer can really take the brunt of the heat by melting and creasing so by using just this.. Means you won’t end up looking like a silly billy!
  • People in the US have a good chance of getting more samples and I definitely did when my other half went shopping for me, they have him a MASSIVE bag of free bee’s.. Much to my delight! Inside was a Clinique palette which has two stunning eye shadows from the Come Heather Trio they have released! Use the cream colour all over the lid and the purple as a eye liner, gently pushed into the lash line! MAGNIFICO!
  • Time to contour and there’s nothing else to say other than Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel.. Fin
  • Blush?? How about Nars Orgasm and I got this duo from the Wicked Attraction set which is selling on Asos with a lip gloss, eye shadow primer and eye shadow for a low price.. Might do a review of this gift set at one point
  • Mascara has to be Clinique high Impact and I have the sample size as I don’t get the chance to buy a full size when I keep getting free samples from everywhere! Lucky me :D
  • Lips can be Estée Lauder Crystal Baby which is glossy and gorgeous! A perfect colour for any skin colour.. I PROMISE
  • Finish off your glamorous look with Mac’s lustre drops which I have in the colour Pink Rebel which you can add before or after your foundation
  • Forgot to get it in the original picture but for powder, use Laura Mercier Mineral Powder be it loose of compact (personally I prefer the compact cause it’s easier to use). This powder is quite heavy but when used with a big fluffy brush.. Gives an amazing and long lasting coverage!
  • Have fun you Fab ladies!
