Red Roulette

20140113-001411.jpg

For those of you who don’t know, red is my favourite colour and I LOVE red makeup on my skin tone! I don’t often wear red clothes but I always manage find a way to wear red somewhere on me! Take a look at my favourite red makeup products!

Revlon Lip Butter in ‘Cherry Tart’ – £5 (On offer at Superdrug right now with 3 for 2)

20140113-002149.jpg

20140113-002209.jpg

20140113-002228.jpg

When it comes to red lips, it’s a stark and sometimes outlandish thing to wear with a hijab so I find wearing a sheer wash of it on the lips is a nice way to pull it off. Lip butters have superb colour pay off and are super moisturising too! They don’t hurt the bank balance too much either!

Elizabeth Arden High Shine Lip Gloss in ‘Golden Red’ – £15

20140113-003308.jpg

20140113-003324.jpg

20140113-003342.jpg

As well as sheer lipsticks, lip glosses are a nice way to wear red. This Elizabeth Arden red is a vibrant red with amazing gold glitter in it! It makes the red a little more subtle somehow and it makes your lips look incredible! This colour would suit most skin tones!

MAC blusher in ‘Frankly Scarlet’ – £18

20140113-004022.jpg

20140113-004051.jpg

The scariest blush you’ve ever seen? I thought so too, until I tried it on and it blew me away! This was the second purchase I ever made from MAC and It’s one of my all time favourite MAC products! It creates an amazing flush to the cheeks but doesn’t look too much.. Just apply it with a light hand because it’s super pigmented! Darker skin..? This would look AMAZING on you!

MakeUp Geek Eyeshadow in ‘Razzleberry’ – £3.63

20140113-004555.jpg

20140113-004611.jpg

MakeUp Geek eyeshadows are one of my favourite brands of eyeshadow! MAC quality for a fraction of the price! They’re super pigmented and this colour is amazing! It’s a reddish/ pink with gold glitter running through it! Notorious for being hard to wear on eyes, red isn’t the easiest colour to wear but experiment with it to see how it best suits you.

Sleek i-Divine Eyeshadow Palette in ‘Sunset’ – £7.99

20140113-005825.jpg

20140113-005846.jpg

I love Sleek palettes and this red-based palette makes wearing red eyeshadow so easy! The colours are mostly shimmery but there is a matte black. I love how the colour mix together to form new shades and how they look on their lonesome! I don’t use it a tonne during the summer but for some reason I love the way the colours look on pale winter skin!

Nails Inc. ‘Big Red Apple’ – £11.99
Rimmel 60 seconds ‘Double Decker Red’ – £3.69
Essie ‘Russian Roulette’ – £7.99

Autumn beauty favourites

I love me some cold weather, hence why you’ll notice a lot of blog posts about the weather this time of year! I like to stick to some staple pieces throughout autumn and here they are:

20131101-180449.jpg

20131101-180459.jpg
Avon super shock gel eyeliner ‘Blackberry’ – £6
When it comes to eyeliner, I’m the Queen! I have tonnes of colours and it’s my ‘go-to’ for when I want to add colour to my face! I like using black but during autumn, I like to use a slightly more warmer colour and a deep red is perfect for that. I have brown eyes, so using brown and red tones compliments them a lot and oxblood, maroon and scarlet are the top autumn colours! This eyeliner is so long lasting and it’s super pigmented! It’s actually a really deep purple colour with intense red glitter in it hence the shade- blackberry. Has superb lasting time and is super pigmented too! I love using this on the waterline and smudging into my top lashes when I want extra smoke (as shown in image above).

20131102-170321.jpg

20131102-170501.jpg
Accessorize Merged Baked Blusher ‘Scandal’ – £5
** Currently not available on their website
When I first purchased this blusher Miss. A one day, I knew if love it! It’s a gorgeous metallic-looking dusty pink! I applied it to my cheeks when I was quite tanned and to be honest, it was almost invisible. Then when I tried using it as my tan wore off, it began to look better and better! It has a gorgeous sheen which doesn’t look like glitter at all and is so pigmented.. Even though it’s baked, it has a lot of depth to it and isn’t a flat colour! It’s smooth to apply and although I first thought it wouldn’t look good as a blusher on darker skin, it adds a gorgeous glow when used as a highlight! I love this stuff and because it’s so valuable, I love it even more! It’s perfect for adding a glow to your skin during the drier months!

20131102-171414.jpg

20131102-171533.jpg
Maybelline Forever Strong Pro ‘Midnight Red’ – £4.09
Ok let’s just appreciate how beautiful this nail varnish is! I love it for adding a bit of colour to the hands! It’s really long lasting and lasts like a gel meaning it doesn’t chip at all and had a high gloss finish! I really like the brush and colour pay off, too! It’s as cheap as chips and Maybelline is available in any country.. WOOHOO!

20131102-180722.jpg

20131102-180754.jpg
Bourjois Shine Edition ’23’ – £7.99
When this range of lipsticks came out, I was so excited to try a few and I grabbed them as soon as I can! The colours I chose were very autumnal and this one is by far and beyond, one of my favourites! I really like red and purple tones and this combines both if my loves! It really is shiny and has a real glossy look to it on your lips. It’s super pigmented and all thought not very long lasting, it is super easy to top up! It’s good value for money and they have a great colour range too.. Definitely one to check out!

20131102-181549.jpg

20131102-181601.jpg
MAC Sheertone Blush ‘Breath of Plum’ – £18
I like bright blushers and I definitely cannot have a face without it! So when I saw this shade earlier on this year, I knew I’d love using it in autumn! It’s sheer, so isn’t a strong rush of purple colour which would look odd and so adds a deep colour without looking dark! It’s a good change from the bright shades because deep colours look better on pale and cold looking skin! It’s soft to touch and is super finely milled colour.. Superb!

20131102-182122.jpg

20131102-182132.jpg
KIKO Eyeshadow ‘133’ – £1.99
When I bought this eyeshadow, I wanted to use it as a blending colour when doing dark smokey eyes, but I love it so much as a smokey shade alone, it’s become a staple for autumn for me! It’s a deep burgundy colour with a copper undertone! It looks super nice mixed with the Avon eyeliner, and it matches so well! It is really pigmented and is soft and smooth to blend! I love this shade for autumn heaps and bounds!

20131102-183725.jpg

20131102-183746.jpg
Real Techniques ‘Expert Face’ Brush – £9.99
The hype of Real Techniques brushes is so high at the moment and it’s evident why when you use this brush! It’s a dense and stuff synthetic brush which is slightly oval shape! It’s so good to use with cream products and heavy powdering! Apply blush, highlighter, bronzer, contour, foundation, concealer and even powder with this brush and your makeup will look flawless! It’s as cheap as chips and lasts so well even after washing! I love using this brush as much as possible and for most of the face products listed above, this brush works perfectly!

Top 5 L’oreal products

20130819-175020.jpg

When it comes to drug store/ high street brands, L’oreal is up there in my top favourites! Continuing on with my ‘top 5’ series, here’s my favourite 5 products from this lovely brand!

I purchased Nude Magique BB cream a while back when it was first released and I fell in love with it! The idea behind it is that the product comes out a grey colour and the more you blend it in, it adapts to your skin tone and has coverage! It looks super natural on the skin and you can barely feel it! It kind of dries to a powder consistency so doesn’t let you shine. It is supposed to have BB qualities too but I’m not too fussed about that.. It’s just a bonus. It doesn’t have a massive range of colours but because it adapts to your skin, you can generalise a shade.
20130819-175047.jpg
L’oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream in ‘light’ – £9.99

I bought the Lumi Magique primer a while back (around 2 years ago) when I first heavily got into make up but didn’t want to spend a lot on it. I really wanted to try a primer to see what it could do and this one, to this day, is one of my favourite. It’s a luminous primer which makes your skin look glowing! You can mix it with your foundation, moisturiser or normal primer to create an overall dewy look. You can use it as a highlighter on the peaks of your face. You can even use as an eyeshadow/ base. It has such a natural pearl which doesn’t look shiny or greasy on your skin and it helps your make up last longer too!

20130819-175301.jpg

20130819-175306.jpg
L’oreal Lumi Magique Primer – £9.99

This one is a recent purchase for me but I have fallen in love with it straight away! A while back.. L’oreal used to sell a carbon gloss liquid eyeliner which they discontinued, much to the dismay of a lot of eyeliner lovers! The nib and product in this is really similar (although not as glossy). I really like how you can create a really thin or thick line depending on your hand pressure! It’s a must for new eyeliner- users! It doesn’t dry out quickly, you can use it on top of eyeshadows and is really long lasting on the lid. It’s also very black and highly pigmented!

20130819-175334.jpg

20130819-175339.jpg
L’oreal Superliner Perfect Slim in ‘Black Intense’ – £6.99

When the Revlon Lip Butters were released, L’oreal quickly bought out competition in the way of these Rouge Caresse lipsticks! They’re a moisturising and sheer colour that are super flattering! Every colour would suit any skin tone. I like the packaging too because it feels high end, even though it’s not. They don’t have the best longevity but because they’re not a bold colour, they’re quick to reapply. I love the shade I got in this coral red colour which adds a super nice pop of colour without being dramatic!

20130819-175409.jpg

20130819-175448.jpg

20130819-175453.jpg
L’oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in ‘Aphrodite Scarlet’ – £7.99

Web it comes to eyeshadows, for quite some time, I remember L’oreal being behind the other brands because they never had anything really worth me ruining.. May be a few mediocre eyeshadow palettes. Then they bought out these bad boys.. Colour Infallible eyeshadows! There are a tonne of nice colours to choose from so to choose one was hard for me! The big deal about these is that they’re actually a pressed pigment which come with a stopper on the top to keep the pigment from spilling everywhere.. Something which all pigments do! They are pigmented, easy to use and cheap & cheerful!

20130819-175511.jpg

20130819-175557.jpg
L’oreal Colour Infallible Eyeshadow in ‘Flashback Silver (15) – £6.99

FYI.. Feel Unique (free worldwide shipping), Superdrug and Boots all have offers on L’oreal products at the moment!

Maybelline Baby Lips.. Finally!

20130816-200956.jpg

I had read on a few blogs that Maybelline had finally released their infamous ‘baby lips’ in the UK and I had been keeping my eyes peeled for them but hadn’t seen them until now!

I really wanted to try them because I always seem to have dry lips and I love a bit of tint.. Not to mention anything that smells good, on my lips! These seemed like the perfect token!

20130816-201005.jpg

The packaging seems a bit flimsy and not really the kind that I’d happily whip out when meeting the Queen as its loud and bright (not to mention a bit flimsy) however, I don’t mind! I can tell I’m not paying for packaging because the product is cheap so I understand their thinking!

When choosing the colours I had a choice between Cherry Me and Peaches because they were the only colours that appealed to me however, I wanted to try just the one for now so being an avid fan of the Haribo Cherries, I chose Cherry Me!

Ok.. The smell! I CAN’T EVEN EXPLAIN! I want to eat it! It has that typical candy cherry scent! If you’ve ever had Cherry Drops, Cherry penny sweets or anything sweet cherry flavoured, you’ll understand! I love the fact that once I’ve got it on my lips and whilst I’m applying, people ask what smells so good!

20130816-201016.jpg

The colour isn’t super pigmented but I like the sheer colour it does have! It’s almost transparent apart from a very light red hue that you notice once you look hard!

The moisturising factor is mediocre! Nothing uber drenching or anything but I like the finish which isn’t super glossy or super matte! You could literally wear this with any makeup look and it would suit adequately!

20130816-201010.jpg

All in all, I’m a big fan! I really like these and I know I’ll get through this ‘Cherry Me’ one in no time! So I’ll be sure to try some more soon!

Baby lips are £2.99 from Boots or Superdrug

How to make a red velvet cake.. Differently!

For my second post I thought it’d be nice to give you a good option as its half term (spring break) for the kids and it’s such a lovely day in London, this one is perfect for picnics!

Ingredients:
125g butter, softened
300g caster sugar
63eggs
1 tablespoons red food colouring
1 & 1/2 tablespoons best quality cocoa powder
180g plain flour
250ml buttermilk/milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
2 bars of chocolate

Always start your baking by preparing the things you will need at the end of your mixing so have your cake tin lined with baking paper (I put something inside the tin to keep the paper weighed down).

20130402-111130.jpg

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 3/ 170 C

20130402-111137.jpg

Whenever there is butter and sugar in a recipe, be sure to use room temperature butter because you’ll have to cream them together and having a softer butter makes this easier.

20130402-111746.jpg

You then want to add your eggs in one at a time and mix well after each one

20130402-111922.jpg

And your mixture will begin to look like this

20130402-111931.jpg

Add your cocoa powder and food colouring and mix until it begins to look a vivid red colour! I used a food colouring powder as that’s all I had

20130402-112026.jpg

Add your salt, vanilla extract and bicarbonate of soda to the mixture

20130402-112301.jpg

Then add a little of your milk/buttermilk and flour alternately, mixing well between each addition

20130402-112352.jpg

Pop the mixture into your cake tin and put in the preheated oven

20130402-112453.jpg

I left my cake in the oven for over an hour (it is quite a low heat, though)

20130402-112639.jpg

When you take the cake out, it’ll be a gorgeous bake with a few cracks on the top if its anything like mine. Stick a clean knife in and out and if the knife comes out clean, your cake it ready!

20130402-112716.jpg

Because I’m a chocoholic, I melted 2 bars of chocolate (I used Galaxy cookie crumble and plain Dairy Milk). I then carved a hole in the middle of the cake and poured the melted chocolate within the whole and spread the other bar of chocolate all over the top. To help the chocolate set, I put the cake in the fridge using a bowl to prop it up so that the chocolate in the middle didn’t pour out.

20130402-113110.jpg

And you can then enjoy…

Christmas nails!!

20121223-232414.jpg

With the holiday season and so many preparations going on, the short days with daylight saving are proving no good for our nails!

I’ve always done my nails before I go to bed whilst I drink my hot chocolate and they always dry before I drift off to sleep, so I thought if show you guys how I do my nails tonight, preparing for all the events I have planned for the coming Christmas week!

You’ll need but a few tools and the process is simple and easy! Read until the end to see what my twist is on this pretty common nail look.

20121223-225654.jpg

20121223-225122.jpg

One of the most common colours for Xmas time is red. But with so many people wearing black and elegant dark dresses, Grey is the perfect alternative to a normally common red colour. It looks good on even short nails as mine are and it’s so easy to wear, no matter what your skin tone. I love this shade called Hazy by Rimmel because its creamy and rich.. Plus it’s speed dry so perfect for using before bed so you don’t sleep and scratch it!

Here’s some easy to follow steps:
1. Use a nail file to clean your nails out of the grub like stuffing and cake.

20121223-225441.jpg

2. Cut your nails if you need to but personally I have never cut my nails and I only ever file them because nails get brittle when you cut them.

20121223-225431.jpg

3. File your nails to a shape which you like and for me that’s square shape because it makes your fingers look longer and slimmer. I like using metal files because they are so quick to use and don’t wear out.

20121223-225457.jpg

4. Lets start with the nail varnish and I always use a base coat! My favourite at the moment is the Sally Hansen Miracle Nail Thickener because its a nice thin and shiny layer beneath your nails which works to make your nails stronger.. Perfect for my weak nails!

20121223-225208.jpg

20121223-225508.jpg

20121223-225516.jpg

5. The colour process begins! I start with a thin layer of colour and paint one whole hand and then move on to tj next, I then go on to the second layer after I’ve finished the other hand. Two coats is more than enough!

20121223-225133.jpg

20121223-225555.jpg
*2 coats of nail varnish

20121223-225607.jpg
*I like to cut my cotton buds/ cue tips in half to clean up my nails with

6. I then like to use a top coat because it helps to keep the polish on for longer. I got this Nails Inc. caviar top coat in a glossy box and like it because it dries fairly quickly and improves the longevity of my nail varnish for a few extra days which is perfect for someone like me.

20121223-225140.jpg

20121223-225620.jpg

20121223-225633.jpg

7. My twist.. GLITTER! Everyone loves glitter! And I love this glitter by Rimmel because its small and matches my nail varnish perfectly! By just adding this into the tip, it gives just a hint of sparkle without the whole BANG of disco ball ;) pun intended!

20121223-225158.jpg

And that’s it! Stick two coats of the glitter on though.. Because I like it doubled up..

Mini make up haul!

20121210-183621.jpg

I recently found some things I had been looking for, for quite some time that I was saving until winter time! Low and behold.. The mini haul..

The first item I picked up from Superdrug! I noticed how although I hardly touch my brows, this harsh weather and the winds do tend to mess up my brows a lot! So I picked up this clear mascara from Collection 2000 which was £1.99! I tested it out and it lasted fantastically and my brows never moved an inch!

20121210-184201.jpg
Collection 2000 Colour Lash mascara in Clear 1- £1.99

I then saw the Maybelline gel eye liner lying there all by itself so grabbed it! It’s in the colour ‘ultra violet’ and is a lovely deep purple colour! I love these gel eye liners because they’re affordable, last ages and look fantastic! I’m so glad I finally got hold of the purple because I’ve been wanting it for a while! It also comes with a lovely brush which I find easy to use.

20121210-183640.jpg
Maybelline Drama eyes Gel Eyeliner in Ultra Violet 10- £7.99

The next item I got on a whim, was this ‘Sleek blush by 3’ palette! It consists of three shades of blushes that you can use lightly, heavily or even blend to create a new shade! I love it! I mentioned in a few posts that I’m loving purple shades at the moment so when I saw this blush which had deep plums as well as a beautiful pop of bright pink, I grabbed it! It’s excellent value for money too!

20121210-184157.jpg
Sleek Blush by 3 blush palette in pink spirit- £9.99

I then saw Zoella from Zoella280390 talk about her love of MAC studio sculpt foundation! I’ve been looking for. Good foundation for quite some time now and as soon as I tried this, fell in love with it! I got the shade NC25 which is a perfect colour match for me but I do have to mix NW25 of my studio fix to match the colour perfectly! Unlike the MatchMaster foundation, the coverage is heavy and not build able. It cannot be sheered down either but for what it does, it’s fantastic and lasts all day! I picked mind up from eBay but this retails for £25.

20121210-184206.jpg
MAC Studio Sculpt foundation in NC25- £11.99

The last item is my favourite and comes in the form of MAC again! After I saw so much rave about this eye shadow I had to get it when I saw a sale on! I had a voucher for Debenhams and they also had a sale on so got this MAC eyeshadow for £3! Cranberry is exactly the colour I’ve been looking for! As someone with green/brown eyes, I thought this would be a perfect colour to make my eyes pop! Perhaps a perfect colour for my wedding day.. Hmmmmmm..

AUTUMN/FALL FAVOURITES!

After summer, the next best season for my has to be Autumn! I love the feeling of being cosy and warm inside with a nice cup of something warm!

20121112-225405.jpg

And there’s a few things I always make sure I have in the colder months!

A hot drink, and for me that has to be a gorgeous Chai Tea Latte! Whenever I go out, I always get one! To be honest I’m not fussy about where from and I’m not a Statbucks junkie so anywhere that sells it, will have me in there! I love spivey food (OBVIOUSLY! I’m Asian) and so having a coffee drink with a bit of something different in it.. Really warms you up!

20121112-224335.jpg
** During the winter months, coffee shops release seasonal inspired drinks, so don’t be afraid to try something new!

A shnuggly night suit! If you know me, you know I love my night suits and I found THE BEST night suit in the world from Next (A UK retailer) who have this AMAZING night suit in their collection at the moment! It’s warm, fussy and looks so nice!

20121112-224433.jpg
**Avoid cotton in the colder months! It’s just not shnuggly enough!

A clean and cosy environment always helps to make you feel a little better when you’ve spent a hard day in the cold! For me, Autumn means getting some autumnal warm bedding, throwing on a few more cushions than usual in my bed and making sure everything is in its place! So when you come home from a hard day at work, your bedroom is cosy, warm and fresh!

20121112-225409.jpg
** Don’t try to start tidying your whole room within 1 day! Take it step by step and rather than stressing yourself out with a time limit, use it as a therapeutic method to de-clutter and de-stress your room.. And mind!

Changing my make up to autumnal colours always helps! I put the hot pinks and bright blues away to use darker and deeper shades! I love plum, dark brown and for a flash of an acceptable colour, lilac! Changing your nails really helps to spice up the whole look!

20121112-224734.jpg
** Lilac is a colour you can wear all year round so if you love your brights just a little too much, don’t be afraid of some purple loving!

The wardrobe also takes a dramatic change! I love colour, but the wearing bright yellow just makes me feel weird when it’s freezing outside! My colour for this years fall time is OXBLOOD! Red is my favourite colour and I love any shade of it! I think no matter what your age, race and where you live, oxblood is your perfect colour for autumn!

20121112-225124.jpg
** Start layering with your items! Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and materials cause that’s really fashionable at the moment!

MAC Haul!

Thought I’d ease myself back into blogging with a MAC haul from perhaps the best products I’ve EVER got from MAC!

20121110-160122.jpg

I went to the MAC in Harrods, which is my favourite MAC that I’ve ever been to! A lot of MAC there! PHEW!! Lets just get into it!

The first things that caught my eye were these brush sets they had! I loved the packaging and pink bristles from the ‘advance’ collection caught my eye! I love all the brushes in both of the sets and although I’d never tried the duo fibre brushes from MAC, but they’re fantastic! They’re lovely and soft and I think the travel size of them, the pack and brush collection are FANTASTIC! Good value for money!

20121110-160145.jpg

20121110-160133.jpg

20121110-160128.jpg

20121110-160141.jpg

20121110-160137.jpg

I’ve also never tried a cream blush my MAC either, but I really wanted to try Posey because it is the perfect autumn colour! I love the texture! I think it reminds me a lot of the Illamaqsua consistency though, so if you like MAC, but find it difficult to get there, ASOS.com sell internationally and they stock Illamasqua! Posey is a gorgeous warm red which has a real brown tinge to it! Looks lovely on any skin I find!

20121110-160150.jpg

20121110-160155.jpg

I’ve been a lot more bolder with my lipstick taste recently and I wanted to embrace that, but for the days when I’m feeling for a nude colour, Cosmo is perfect! It’s an amplified finish and so has extremely lovely pigment and is that perfect pink nude for those days when you’re feeling like a natural beauty.

20121110-160204.jpg

20121110-160215.jpg

20121110-160232.jpg

For the days when I’m feeling exuberant and I want to have bold lips, Dubonnet shouted to me! It’s a lovely deep red but again with a brown tinge to it and I think it’s compliments Posey! If you don’t want to wear it full on, you can wear it sheerer like I have on in the picture below!

20121110-160222.jpg

20121110-160227.jpg

20121110-160236.jpg
