Disappointing products of 2013

20140121-223327.jpg

Although 2013 was a good year for my beauty regime, there were a few beauty products which did let me down a bit! This isn’t to say that they wouldn’t work on other people, but I thought it would be good to show what products don’t suit me!

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Fresh & Flirty Blush – £4.99

20140121-224250.jpg
* When I got this dry shampoo, I was hoping that it would help with ‘hijab hair’ that us Hijabi’s get after wearing a scarf all day! It’s superb at adding a bit of volume and reviving limp hair but it left an AWFUL white cast on my hair! I looked like an old lady! I know they do a spray specifically for brunette’s, so I may just have to try that!

Topshop Cream Blush – Afternoon Tea – £6

20140121-224352.jpg
* With this product, I was so excited to try if after I had bought it because I loved the colour, however, I should have known better! Cream blushes and me have a notorious relationship because they don’t last on me unless I set them with a powder! This was the only cream blush I got this year but I feel as though although its cream-to-powder formulation, it does nothing and wears off momentarily! Was a waste of money to be honest!

Bobbi Brown Corrector – Bisque – £18.50

20140121-224422.jpg
* This was actually more of an impulse purchase which didn’t work out! I was with someone who said they swear by it and because I had heard so much about it, I was crazy to try it however, it took me ages to figure out what colour I was, how to apply it and now.. To finish it! It’s really cakey and thick and also I feel as though the shade is off! It creases really badly and when I try to set it, it makes my under eyes look dry.. Very strange product for me!

Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner – Black – £12

20140121-224507.jpg
* This was one of the first ever products I have tried from Eyeko! I was so excited to try it because I loved using my L’Oreal Perfect Slim eyeliner and really got into the felt tip eyeliner method! However, this was really dry the second time I used it even though I stored it nib face down! It’s really black and has a good applicator but the product was just dry and really hard to revive! It was so dry, it was tugging at my eyes! I’m don’t know if I got a bad one or whether they’re all bad however, I’m still open to trying Eyeko products.. No hard feelings!

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Extreme Plump Pucker – Pink Out Loud – £10

20140121-224526.jpg
* When it comes to lipgloss, last year was a big shiny mess for me! I tried so many glosses ranging from £1 to £20 and by far and beyond, I was disappointed the most by this one! It is Soooooooo strong, it made my lips feel like I had had anaesthetic injections in them! It was really painful and I didn’t feel as though my lips had changed in the slightest in size! When I apply it on top of lipstick, I can’t tell I even have gloss on! It’s a nice colour and has a good finish and pigment, but it’s hard to wear!

Essie Nail Varnish – Russian Roulette – £7.99

20140121-224550.jpg
* This nail varnish colour is AMAZING! I love this red because it’s a true red and not orange nor blue toned! It looks good on any skin tone and is so beautiful to apply! It has a big brush and the colour is super pigmented BUT it stains my nails SOOOOO bad! It took me months to grow out the colour because it just wouldn’t fade off! I never applied a base coat but the staining was so bad, I’m not sure if an average base coat would protect my nails! It’s like war paint!

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette

IT’S HERE!! It’s arrived! And let’s have a moment of silence for its beauty in all it’s glory!!

20131217-204836.jpg

The much awaited Naked 3 palette has been released and just in time for Christmas (cleverly done Urban Decay). I was in town on the day if the launch and didn’t really have high hopes of getting ahold of it but I managed to get the last one in the store! I have the other Naked palettes and love them like no other so I knew I’d love this one just as much!

20131217-205001.jpg

20131217-205220.jpg

The Packaging
Much like the Naked 2 palette, it comes in a metal tin with the 12 eyeshadows and brush inside! The inside is plastic lines and it comes with a big long mirror. It’s small, lightweight and ultra thin so excellent for travel. The outside looks like rouged fabric and is rose gold in colour with Naked 3 written in lovely handwriting embossed on the front! It’s really appealing to look at and would look great on a makeup/ vanity table! Originally it comes in a cardboard box.

20131217-205320.jpg

The Product
The eyeshadows themselves are the same size as the other two palettes and range in finish and shade (of course). There are three matte colour which are the ‘blending’ colours in my eyes so, cleverly thought out by Urban Decay there. There are four ‘foil’ finishes which are basically chunky and loose pigment style shades which have quite a bit of fall out but are really pigmented! And the other eyeshadows are ‘satin’ like finishes which either have a glitter running through them or are just a solid colour with a hue of another colour running in it. All of the colours are really pigmented, smooth and blend really well. The palette also comes with four small sample sized primer potions (which they claim would last a week each). There is also a dual ended synthetic brush which has a flat shader brush for applying colour on one end and a fluffy blending brush on the other.

20131217-205326.jpg

The Price
£37. The palette is available in Debenhams, Beauty Bay, House of Fraser. If you’re from the US, the Urban Decay website. This price includes the primer potions, brush and eyeshadow palette.

20131217-205333.jpg

The Verdict
All in all, after all the hype of the palette, I think it’s done really well! They’ve managed to make this palette different from the other two. I remember reading reviews from people when the Naked 2 was released of people saying you couldn’t tell the first and second palette apart. But this one is completely different with its warmer shades and an overall more ‘pinky’ vibe. It’s a nice colour collection and a lovely romantic feel throughout the palette! You can create tonnes of looks with the colours and not just with each individual colour, they’re good when they’re layered! The complaint I have is that the foiled colours have a lot of fall out. This one is SO overpriced! It costs £5 more than the other two at £37 and to be honest, the packaging isn’t that amazing and for reason, I feel as though MAC packaging although simple, is a lot more classy and sturdy. However, for 12 eyeshadows and a brush, the value is still amazing! For those of us on a smaller budget, let’s just wait for MUA or another drugstore brand to come out with a dupe for the palette! And when they do, I’ll keep you updated!

20131217-205339.jpg

All in all: 9/10 for this bundle of joy! It’s an amazing palette and lived up to all the hype. Would have got another point if they managed to make it a little cheaper so that a lot more people could justify its price!

KIKO make up haul

20130908-142538.jpg

Continuing on with my haul from the last blog post, here are the items I bought from KIKO!

The first items I picked up, were these creamy lipgloss sticks. Very similar to the chubby sticks by way of the packaging and product inside too! I feel as though these last a little longer though. They are glossy and are quite sheer too (which is my favourite combination). I chose 3 colours!

20130904-102123.jpg

** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 102: £6.50

** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 110: £6.50

20130909-110559.jpg
** KIKO pH lip enhancer in 100: £6.50

These individual eyeshadows also caught my eye after I knocked a few over with my bag in the store! I chose colours that I could wear alone and wouldn’t have to pair up with anything else! The are super creamy and pigmented. They all have a sheen or glitter in them but its not chunky and they don’t have a tonne of fallout. These remind me of MAC eyeshadows with the same type of quality.

20130904-102805.jpg

20130904-102811.jpg
** KIKO eyeshadows in shades (left to right): 166, 116, 133, 148 – £2.90 each

I then saw these lipsticks and the colours caught my eye! I’ve been trying to use lip products more because I feel like changing your lips can change your whole face instantly! When I saw these colours, I knew they’d be perfect for slamming in my handbag and topping up on the go! They’re lovely pink and brown nudes (can you tell which colours I like?). Although they’re sheer, they’re glossy and have a lovely gold flex running through! They’re semi- sheer and really moisturising with a comfortable application!

20130909-110351.jpg
** KIKO smart lipsticks in shades: 903, 917 – £1.90 each

I’m a sucker for eyeshadow palettes! More so, for KIKO eyeshadow palettes which I own a few of already! I remember seeing these on their website and loving the colours but when I actually tried them in store, I was literally left with my mouth hanging wide open! They are the creamiest and softest eyeshadows in the world! I have never felt such strongly pigmented and rich colours in any product before! They blend so well and look so vibrant it’s crazy! I am definitely going to get the other palettes!

20130908-142017.jpg

20130908-142026.jpg
** KIKO colour impact eyeshadow palette in ‘Bright Night Lights 03’ – £16.90

When I saw this nail varnish, I was intrigued about how it would look. Whilst I was checking out, I saw this sitting there for £1 and grabbed it! The colour is a beautiful pastel blue with a slight purple tinge. The ‘sugar mat’, isn’t so interesting! It’s really gritty and after having it on for only a few minutes, I knew it wasn’t practical! It’s fairly sharp and feels like super hard sandpaper. Moreover, it looks like your nail varnish has major air bubbling going on, so I’m not too crazy about this but, I’ll hold on to it for the next type I’m carving wooden sculptures!

20130908-142254.jpg
** KIKO Sugar Mat nail lacquer in ‘635 Wisteria’ – £1

Inglot make up haul

20130908-140852.jpg

Can you believe, I’ve been shopping again? I went into London recently and saw some lovely little make up bits that I had to grab! Take a look at today’s post where I show you what I got at Inglot!

I popped into Inglot because they had a sale on, on their lip, eyebrow and concealer palettes.. 50% off! I chose their 5 piece freedom system palette and decided to choose only lipsticks as I didn’t really need any other stuff (not that I need more lipsticks, though). These ended up being so creamy and pigmented! They look amazing and feel good too! I’ve tried an actual lipstick from Inglot before and it’s one of my favourites!

20130904-095154.jpg
**Inglot AMC 5 roundfreedom palette: £3.50
Lipstick refills in shades (left to right): 29, 56, 26, 03, 62- £1.75 each

I then picked up another lip product by way of the lip paint! This is an uber glossy and moisturising lip stick kind of pot! The colour is the perfect nude for me which adds colour and doesn’t drain me out.

20130904-095649.jpg

20130909-104153.jpg** Inglot lip paint in shade 63: £10

The last few things that I got were nail varnishes! I really wanted some more of the o2m nail varnishes in nude colours that I could always wear! I chose brown and pink toned nudes and they ended up being really nice! I think I’ll enjoy them more in winter though because they don’t seem to look very good with tanned hands.. I have the pink shade (680) on right now.

**Inglot. o2M nail paints in shade: 677, 680- £11.00 each

For all the products I’ve mentioned, you can visit their website here. Their p&p is a little pricey and their swatch colours online are a little off though, so I’d suggest visiting the store for a better experience!

Top 5 Revlon products

When it comes to drugstore brands, there is one that that sticks out more than my others for having the best range of all types of products. Revlon excels in foundation (colour stay), lips (butters &lipsticks) and even eyes (grow luscious mascara). It seems as though everything they make, is a best seller.. I agree!

When it comes to lips, their lip butters are incredible! They are pigmented but sheer and they are super moisturising. Because they’re easy to glide on, you can stick these in your handbag and top up on the go. 2 of my favourite shades are the ones below:

20130821-195209.jpg

20130821-195329.jpg20130821-195214.jpg

20130821-195333.jpg

I’m also crazy about Revlon lipsticks! If you’re looking for MAC lipsticks but don’t want to pay as much for them, Revlon do some great ones and in tonnes of shades! You can often find dupes for colours and finishes that MAC have. This pink lipstick is my absolute fave! I love this colour which is a soft pink that looks really nice and neutral. I love building it up and even rubbing it in for less colour on those days where you want to wear little makeup. It’s super creamy and moisturising. It also wears off beautifully leaving a stain, rather than a scummy white like like some lipsticks do! ** beware.. If you have a moustache, this lipstick will for sure make it look prominent (a lesson learnt for me the hard way).

20130821-195736.jpg

20130821-195747.jpg

These eyelashes believe it or not, were the first ever eyelashes I bought! I had worn false eyelashes before, after receiving them in monthly beauty boxes but I had never gone out to look for them until I found these! They are the best lashes I’ve ever tried! There are 4 in a pack and they’re well-priced. I love how natural they look on, how the end wings off but, not dramatically and I also like the thin band. I tried these lashes on many people and they all said they loved the way their lashes looked. If you wear fake eyelashes quite a lot, these are definitely super comfortable!

20130821-200051.jpg

20130821-200101.jpg
* Here’s me wearing the lashes recently

Last but by no means least, a favourite product which I’m sure a tonne of people would agree with me on.. Nail varnishes! Revlon are renowned for their wide range of colours and they also have some good varieties too such as their ‘Top Speed’ and ‘Colourstay’ lines. I really like this pink colour shown below. The pink shade just screams summer! It’s one of those shades that adds a splash if colour without being too neon or daring. It’s a lovely coral pink shade. The consistency is so thick and gel like, that one coat usually does the job for me. It really does dry in no time and I’ve noticed how glossy it looks too!

Top 5 L’oreal products

20130819-175020.jpg

When it comes to drug store/ high street brands, L’oreal is up there in my top favourites! Continuing on with my ‘top 5’ series, here’s my favourite 5 products from this lovely brand!

I purchased Nude Magique BB cream a while back when it was first released and I fell in love with it! The idea behind it is that the product comes out a grey colour and the more you blend it in, it adapts to your skin tone and has coverage! It looks super natural on the skin and you can barely feel it! It kind of dries to a powder consistency so doesn’t let you shine. It is supposed to have BB qualities too but I’m not too fussed about that.. It’s just a bonus. It doesn’t have a massive range of colours but because it adapts to your skin, you can generalise a shade.
20130819-175047.jpg
L’oreal Paris Nude Magique BB Cream in ‘light’ – £9.99

I bought the Lumi Magique primer a while back (around 2 years ago) when I first heavily got into make up but didn’t want to spend a lot on it. I really wanted to try a primer to see what it could do and this one, to this day, is one of my favourite. It’s a luminous primer which makes your skin look glowing! You can mix it with your foundation, moisturiser or normal primer to create an overall dewy look. You can use it as a highlighter on the peaks of your face. You can even use as an eyeshadow/ base. It has such a natural pearl which doesn’t look shiny or greasy on your skin and it helps your make up last longer too!

20130819-175301.jpg

20130819-175306.jpg
L’oreal Lumi Magique Primer – £9.99

This one is a recent purchase for me but I have fallen in love with it straight away! A while back.. L’oreal used to sell a carbon gloss liquid eyeliner which they discontinued, much to the dismay of a lot of eyeliner lovers! The nib and product in this is really similar (although not as glossy). I really like how you can create a really thin or thick line depending on your hand pressure! It’s a must for new eyeliner- users! It doesn’t dry out quickly, you can use it on top of eyeshadows and is really long lasting on the lid. It’s also very black and highly pigmented!

20130819-175334.jpg

20130819-175339.jpg
L’oreal Superliner Perfect Slim in ‘Black Intense’ – £6.99

When the Revlon Lip Butters were released, L’oreal quickly bought out competition in the way of these Rouge Caresse lipsticks! They’re a moisturising and sheer colour that are super flattering! Every colour would suit any skin tone. I like the packaging too because it feels high end, even though it’s not. They don’t have the best longevity but because they’re not a bold colour, they’re quick to reapply. I love the shade I got in this coral red colour which adds a super nice pop of colour without being dramatic!

20130819-175409.jpg

20130819-175448.jpg

20130819-175453.jpg
L’oreal Rouge Caresse Lipstick in ‘Aphrodite Scarlet’ – £7.99

Web it comes to eyeshadows, for quite some time, I remember L’oreal being behind the other brands because they never had anything really worth me ruining.. May be a few mediocre eyeshadow palettes. Then they bought out these bad boys.. Colour Infallible eyeshadows! There are a tonne of nice colours to choose from so to choose one was hard for me! The big deal about these is that they’re actually a pressed pigment which come with a stopper on the top to keep the pigment from spilling everywhere.. Something which all pigments do! They are pigmented, easy to use and cheap & cheerful!

20130819-175511.jpg

20130819-175557.jpg
L’oreal Colour Infallible Eyeshadow in ‘Flashback Silver (15) – £6.99

FYI.. Feel Unique (free worldwide shipping), Superdrug and Boots all have offers on L’oreal products at the moment!

Top 5 summer pink lipsticks!

20130721-234537.jpg

Now that we’re in the middle of the summertime, it’s time to pull out our bright colours! Some people aren’t too confident in wearing bright clothing and they love a bright lip so here’s my favourite summertime pinks! Stay tuned in the next few days for my other favourite summer tones!

20130721-233431.jpg

Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie £7.99
A smooth and moisturising pink shade. Although not uber sticky, glitter glistens beautifully in sunlight and is a lovely muted pink without being garish.

20130721-233716.jpg

Barry M in TMLP (turn my lips pink)
A melanin changing lip colour that adjusts differently on every person. It’s a moisturising pink colour that goes deeper as you do (when tanning etc) Lasts really well because it’s a stain.

July Glossy Box

20130713-220332.jpg

I received my July Glossy Box this month and loved it so much, I thought I’d share what I received, with you!

20130713-220412.jpg

So this months, theme was Summer Splash and my oh my, were the products ready for summer!

The first product is this gorgeous nail varnish from Ciate (the first Ciate product for me) and its in this shade called The Glossip. It’s a lovely coral orange colour perfect for these summer days! It looks lovely with a nice light golden tan! The colour looks fabulous with one thick coat and I love the packaging too!

20130713-220502.jpg

The next product is this Alterna Bamboo Style Boho Waves tousled texture mist!! What a mouthful! I tried this as soon as I got it because it says to apply to damp hair and I had just washed mine! It’s supposed to give you nice beach waves that look effortless. When I applied it, the spray isn’t really a misty haze, more of a semi-squirt which wasn’t that appealing! Then once it had gone in my hair, it felt so strange! Almost like my hair didn’t want to dry because the product was on it. It became frizzy and in areas where I had sprayed a little too close, the spray had collected to form a kind of oily/dampish area which was unusual! I don’t know if it didn’t work on my hair but my barnet has never rejected any product before so I’d be surprised! My hair never really curled at all and although in the areas where I sprayed it too close, my hair had texture, I was unimpressed by this product.

20130713-220517.jpg

I then gravitated towards this product by Anatomicals called Spray Misty for me Facial Spritz! They always have the most quirky names and descriptions on the back! This is supposed to be a facial spray which helps to cool your face leaving you refreshed and glowing! I tried this myself.. Didn’t really notice a difference and then tried it on my mum! My mum was in the kitchen cooking at the time so was very hot and my mum sweats a lot too (cause she drinks a horse full of water everyday). And she said after applying the mist, she never sweat at all! She looked radiant and glowing a few minutes after the spray set in and she loves the smell of lavender! My mum gives it a 6/10!

20130713-220525.jpg

This product is a must for everybody in summer in my eyes.. SPF! Face COOLA classic sunscreen! It’s the cucumber scent and is very refreshing on the skin! Unlike most sunscreens, this never felt sticky at all and really just glided on and then disappeared into my skin. The product wasn’t too thick and didn’t feel sticky at all so I really like this!

20130713-220549.jpg

I’ve truly saved the best until last! These are the Sleek Pout Paints and there are two that come in the Glossy Box! A beautiful bright pink called Pinkini (go on my Instagram to see the Instavideo I did on this) and a gorgeous orange in the shade Lava. I tried this straight away and I loved the way they liked on my lips! Because they’re stains, they don’t budge so I’m tempted to use them on my cheeks too! They’re supposed to mix-able with other colours so some people received silver or blue but you can create your own shades! I’m glad I got the two shades I did though, because I don’t want to live without them now! I previously bought one if these in the shade Minx and was a little disappointed by the colour! It’s UBER pigmented but because they’re oil based, they separate when you don’t use then for a little while.. All the more reason to rock a bright lip everyday!

My top 5 lipsticks to wear with a tan

20130712-233427.jpg

When it comes to lipsticks, I think it’s safe to say that I think I have quite a good collection! But one thing I struggle with is finding a perfect nude when I’m tanned!!

Much like my other pasty friends out there, I fake tan and this year was no exception! I actually fake tanned so much this year, I don’t remember what my real colour is anymore.. Until I look behind my ear.. Which I don’t do often! It’s quite hard to find a nude lipstick which is flattering when you’re tanned, be that fake tanned or sun worshipped.

So here’s a list of my 5 top tan lipsticks!

The first one is a cheap and cheerful nude colour from Rimmel! This shade is called ‘Nude Delight’ and is the perfect peachy nude! It suits almost everyone in my opinion! If you’re uber fair and tanned, it adds a gorgeous hint of peach whilst not disturbing your colouring and if you have a deep tan, because its not bright peach, it doesn’t look like ‘concealer lips’.

20130712-233502.jpg

20130712-233512.jpg

20130712-233535.jpg
** Rimmel Nude Delight £6.29

The next shade is another good ‘un from Rimmel! This time from the Kate Moss for Rimmel line in the shade 03 (it has no name). This nude is a lot more brown toned and so is perfect of you’re going for a heavy makeup look whilst tanned and want to wear a nude colour! If you have darker skin or a deeper tan, this colour will look super without drawing the attention away from your make up.

20130712-233625.jpg

20130712-233553.jpg

20130712-233647.jpg
** Rimmel Kate 03 £5.49

This colour is the perfect nude in my opinion and is my current favourite! It looks quite pink in the images (but that’s because my lips had become quite red from removing the lipstick from the previous swatches). This lovely nude colour is a lustre finish from MAC in the shade ‘Shy Girl’. The lustre finish means its not super pigmented but has a nice sheer and glossy finish. It looks lovely because it looks like your natural lip colour and its moisturising too! Btw.. MAC lipstick prices have gone up again!

20130712-233659.jpg

20130712-233717.jpg

20130712-233736.jpg
** MAC Shy Girl (lustre) £15

This next one is for those of you who have darker lips or a darker tan and want to add more colour! Because its pink and has purple undertones, it’ll look great with a tan! This lipstick is from Shu Uemura and is in the shade ‘BG 955’. It’s really pigmented and is very moisturising too! I love this colour and this is the lipstick I go to when I want to add a quick flash of colour!

20130712-233746.jpg

20130712-233811.jpg

20130712-233822.jpg
** Shu Uemura BG955 £19

The next one is my most favourite lipstick of all time! And this is the only lipstick in my life so far that I will probably finish and repurchase! This colour.. It makes me angry how perfect it is because I feel like I’ve wasted my time with all the other lipsticks! Estée Lauder ‘Crystal Baby’ came into my life and made it worth living! Whether you have a tan.. Be that a fair tan or deepest of deep tan, this colour is the perfect glossy pinky, peachy, browny nude! It smells divine and the packaging is lovely too! I can’t say enough good things about this. I promise you that if you get this, you won’t regret this high end purchase!
