Eyeshadow Sticks.. Worth the hype?

20140129-164807.jpg

When it comes to eyeshadow, I’m one of those people who has their fazes! I don’t wear eyeshadow every single day but since last year, I’ve been CRAZY about it! I’ve purchased tonnes of new palettes and gone WAY out of my comfort zone with colours! When I found an eyeshadow stick I had got in a Glossy Box a year or so ago, I fell in love with the ease of application and the colour range! So here are some of my FAVOURITE eyeshadow sticks of all time!

Eyeko FAT Eye Stick in ‘Satin Taupe’ – £5

20140129-165109.jpg
This eyeshadow pencil, much like the name suggests is just like the MAC eyeshadow Satin Taupe, which so many people LOVE! This is an excellent way to make your eyes look a little different from the average ‘matte nude’ colours which some of us rely on so much! It’s a gorgeous olive toned brown with quite a strong shimmer running through it! It blends effortlessly, applies like butter and looks like a gorgeous sheen on the eyelid! It’s so easy to wear this as a wash of colour! It also twists up so you don’t need to sharpen it.. BONUS!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick in ‘Paranoid Purple’ – £4.49

20140129-165119.jpg
There was a big rave on blogs and beauty YouTube channels last year about this product and I was so amazed at the reviews! Everyone seemed to love the earthy tones that comes in this line but I was so drawn to this purple shade for some reason! When you swatch it, it’s a beautifully vibrant purple but when you blend it, it darkens up a bit and looks like a gorgeous deep purple with violet shimmer! Again, it blends effortlessly and applies like angels! It doesn’t break the bank either and I’m pretty sure that Rimmel is available in most countries!

Collection Eyeshadow Pencil in ‘Denim Diva’ – £3.19

20140129-165132.jpg
This stick was an impulse purchase for sure! I just loved the blue shade and it was calling to me! Again.. It’s not a colour that I would usually go for but I just fell in love with it! I bought this in the summertime because I knew that it would look fantastic in the warm evenings and I wasn’t wrong! It’s a gorgeous deep blue with a light shimmer running through and it doesn’t fail to amaze me every time I wear it! I tend to steer clear of blues because they often contradict my skin tone however, this looks amazing with just a wash on the lid and then blended with a skin tone colour around the edges! I love the lasting power of this one too!

In conclusion, YES! I love eyeshadow sticks and they have definitely become a new favourite makeup item of mine! I like all these crayon type make up products because they’re amazing for travel! I’ll be going away for a few days soon and know that I’ll have at least 3 ‘stick forms’ of makeup somewhere in my makeup bag! I really like them for their buttery-ness and application because it’s superb! Even drug store alternatives like the ones I’ve shown, they’re great! Definitely a must- have!

KIKO make up haul

20130908-142538.jpg

Continuing on with my haul from the last blog post, here are the items I bought from KIKO!

The first items I picked up, were these creamy lipgloss sticks. Very similar to the chubby sticks by way of the packaging and product inside too! I feel as though these last a little longer though. They are glossy and are quite sheer too (which is my favourite combination). I chose 3 colours!

** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 102: £6.50

** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 110: £6.50

20130909-110559.jpg
** KIKO pH lip enhancer in 100: £6.50

These individual eyeshadows also caught my eye after I knocked a few over with my bag in the store! I chose colours that I could wear alone and wouldn’t have to pair up with anything else! The are super creamy and pigmented. They all have a sheen or glitter in them but its not chunky and they don’t have a tonne of fallout. These remind me of MAC eyeshadows with the same type of quality.

20130904-102805.jpg

20130904-102811.jpg
** KIKO eyeshadows in shades (left to right): 166, 116, 133, 148 – £2.90 each

I then saw these lipsticks and the colours caught my eye! I’ve been trying to use lip products more because I feel like changing your lips can change your whole face instantly! When I saw these colours, I knew they’d be perfect for slamming in my handbag and topping up on the go! They’re lovely pink and brown nudes (can you tell which colours I like?). Although they’re sheer, they’re glossy and have a lovely gold flex running through! They’re semi- sheer and really moisturising with a comfortable application!

20130909-110351.jpg
** KIKO smart lipsticks in shades: 903, 917 – £1.90 each

I’m a sucker for eyeshadow palettes! More so, for KIKO eyeshadow palettes which I own a few of already! I remember seeing these on their website and loving the colours but when I actually tried them in store, I was literally left with my mouth hanging wide open! They are the creamiest and softest eyeshadows in the world! I have never felt such strongly pigmented and rich colours in any product before! They blend so well and look so vibrant it’s crazy! I am definitely going to get the other palettes!

20130908-142017.jpg

20130908-142026.jpg
** KIKO colour impact eyeshadow palette in ‘Bright Night Lights 03’ – £16.90

When I saw this nail varnish, I was intrigued about how it would look. Whilst I was checking out, I saw this sitting there for £1 and grabbed it! The colour is a beautiful pastel blue with a slight purple tinge. The ‘sugar mat’, isn’t so interesting! It’s really gritty and after having it on for only a few minutes, I knew it wasn’t practical! It’s fairly sharp and feels like super hard sandpaper. Moreover, it looks like your nail varnish has major air bubbling going on, so I’m not too crazy about this but, I’ll hold on to it for the next type I’m carving wooden sculptures!

** KIKO Sugar Mat nail lacquer in ‘635 Wisteria’ – £1

Inglot make up haul

20130908-140852.jpg

Can you believe, I’ve been shopping again? I went into London recently and saw some lovely little make up bits that I had to grab! Take a look at today’s post where I show you what I got at Inglot!

I popped into Inglot because they had a sale on, on their lip, eyebrow and concealer palettes.. 50% off! I chose their 5 piece freedom system palette and decided to choose only lipsticks as I didn’t really need any other stuff (not that I need more lipsticks, though). These ended up being so creamy and pigmented! They look amazing and feel good too! I’ve tried an actual lipstick from Inglot before and it’s one of my favourites!

20130904-095154.jpg
**Inglot AMC 5 roundfreedom palette: £3.50
Lipstick refills in shades (left to right): 29, 56, 26, 03, 62- £1.75 each

I then picked up another lip product by way of the lip paint! This is an uber glossy and moisturising lip stick kind of pot! The colour is the perfect nude for me which adds colour and doesn’t drain me out.

20130904-095649.jpg

20130909-104153.jpg** Inglot lip paint in shade 63: £10

The last few things that I got were nail varnishes! I really wanted some more of the o2m nail varnishes in nude colours that I could always wear! I chose brown and pink toned nudes and they ended up being really nice! I think I’ll enjoy them more in winter though because they don’t seem to look very good with tanned hands.. I have the pink shade (680) on right now.

20130904-095951.jpg
**Inglot. o2M nail paints in shade: 677, 680- £11.00 each

For all the products I’ve mentioned, you can visit their website here. Their p&p is a little pricey and their swatch colours online are a little off though, so I’d suggest visiting the store for a better experience!

Pencil haul!

I’ve been loving pencils lately because the hot weather means that creamy products just aren’t cutting it! They just tend to crease and rub off with all the sweatiness happening on my face!

20130802-181423.jpg

20130802-184516.jpg
*EEK.. No concealer or mascara!

L’oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim: £6.99
The first item isn’t even a pencil at all, rather a felt tip! But this eye liner is amazing! I saw an advert on YouTube with this and instantly knew I wanted it because I love gel eyeliner but sometimes I want something more stark in colour and liquid liner is sometimes too flakey and glossy! This is the perfect go between! It lasts for ages, is super black and you can create all different width lines! It’s super easy to use so if you’re a beginner to lining eyes, this one is great!

20130802-181427.jpg

20130802-184635.jpg

Bourjois Metallise in 54: £4.99
This eyeliner jumped out at me because of the colour! I recently saw Pixiwoo use some greens and blues in the tutorial on their YouTube and I really wanted a nice blue! Not only did I love the colour of this, I love the texture! It’s a beautiful metallic light blue shade that is as creamy as can be! I would probably smudge this with some darker eyeshadow to make it more smokey but just look how it makes your eyes pop!

20130802-181432.jpg

20130802-181437.jpg

20130802-184621.jpg

20130802-184625.jpg

Rimmel 1000 Kisses: £2.99
I wanted a few lip liners because I was getting bored of lipstick and saw these from Rimmel! The lighter colour is ‘Tiramisu’ and the darker ‘Wine’. I love the staying power of these and they glide on too! They can be a bit hard to get even on the lips though as you can see with the darker shade but they look fantastic and there are some great shades to choose from!

My top 5 lipsticks to wear with a tan

20130712-233427.jpg

When it comes to lipsticks, I think it’s safe to say that I think I have quite a good collection! But one thing I struggle with is finding a perfect nude when I’m tanned!!

Much like my other pasty friends out there, I fake tan and this year was no exception! I actually fake tanned so much this year, I don’t remember what my real colour is anymore.. Until I look behind my ear.. Which I don’t do often! It’s quite hard to find a nude lipstick which is flattering when you’re tanned, be that fake tanned or sun worshipped.

So here’s a list of my 5 top tan lipsticks!

The first one is a cheap and cheerful nude colour from Rimmel! This shade is called ‘Nude Delight’ and is the perfect peachy nude! It suits almost everyone in my opinion! If you’re uber fair and tanned, it adds a gorgeous hint of peach whilst not disturbing your colouring and if you have a deep tan, because its not bright peach, it doesn’t look like ‘concealer lips’.

20130712-233502.jpg

20130712-233512.jpg

20130712-233535.jpg
** Rimmel Nude Delight £6.29

The next shade is another good ‘un from Rimmel! This time from the Kate Moss for Rimmel line in the shade 03 (it has no name). This nude is a lot more brown toned and so is perfect of you’re going for a heavy makeup look whilst tanned and want to wear a nude colour! If you have darker skin or a deeper tan, this colour will look super without drawing the attention away from your make up.

20130712-233625.jpg

20130712-233553.jpg

20130712-233647.jpg
** Rimmel Kate 03 £5.49

This colour is the perfect nude in my opinion and is my current favourite! It looks quite pink in the images (but that’s because my lips had become quite red from removing the lipstick from the previous swatches). This lovely nude colour is a lustre finish from MAC in the shade ‘Shy Girl’. The lustre finish means its not super pigmented but has a nice sheer and glossy finish. It looks lovely because it looks like your natural lip colour and its moisturising too! Btw.. MAC lipstick prices have gone up again!

20130712-233659.jpg

20130712-233717.jpg

20130712-233736.jpg
** MAC Shy Girl (lustre) £15

This next one is for those of you who have darker lips or a darker tan and want to add more colour! Because its pink and has purple undertones, it’ll look great with a tan! This lipstick is from Shu Uemura and is in the shade ‘BG 955’. It’s really pigmented and is very moisturising too! I love this colour and this is the lipstick I go to when I want to add a quick flash of colour!

20130712-233746.jpg

20130712-233811.jpg

20130712-233822.jpg
** Shu Uemura BG955 £19

The next one is my most favourite lipstick of all time! And this is the only lipstick in my life so far that I will probably finish and repurchase! This colour.. It makes me angry how perfect it is because I feel like I’ve wasted my time with all the other lipsticks! Estée Lauder ‘Crystal Baby’ came into my life and made it worth living! Whether you have a tan.. Be that a fair tan or deepest of deep tan, this colour is the perfect glossy pinky, peachy, browny nude! It smells divine and the packaging is lovely too! I can’t say enough good things about this. I promise you that if you get this, you won’t regret this high end purchase!

GLASSES MAKE UP!

20120907-193938.jpg

The worst thing in the world that could have happened, happened!!

All the contact lenses I had tore or got lost and I had no choice but to wear my glasses! This was a disaster for me because I never wear my glasses unless I’m at home and I hardly ever wear them with make up! Now I do love a good pair of glasses and I change them every year but I always thought hijab and glasses wasn’t a good look for me!

Obviously I was forced to wear them and in the morning, I had to think long and hard about the make up I wanted to do!

When wearing glasses, you have to try to define your face slightly more because a lot of it is being covered by a bulky piece! Contour is your best friend and you’ll have to invest some time in doing your eye make up so a little less sleep!

I love my naked palettes at the moment and I have both of them so I used a combination of colours! There are THOUSANDS of dupes for these colours! If you’re the kind of person who finds buying eye shadow disastrous because of the sheer amount of them, and would prefer to use the palette you’ve had for 15 years.. DON’T! BH cosmetics do a palette called the 120 palette which has.. 120 colours! You’ll never need another!

20120907-193953.jpg

20120907-193944.jpg

Glasses can make your eyes seem really small so invest in eye liner and try to define your eyes! I used eye shadow on my top lash line because it feels a little more comfortable and, wears off a little bit better (doesn’t crack or smudge which I find so hard to wipe off). You can also apply eye liner to the bottom lash line because this will even out the balance of your eyes making them look less top heavy! However, don’t go overboard with the the liner because it will make your eyes look tiny and they’re already being magnified by your glasses!

20120907-194130.jpg

Use colours which aren’t too vibrant and stick to neutrals! You can of course do smokey looks with glasses on but save it for the evening time and during the day, stick to browns and neutral colours which compliment all eye colours and skin tones

If you have dark skin, use darker browns and gold for a spice of colour! Even copper gun metal colours will look fabulous with your sexy frames on!

Curl lashes!

20120907-194012.jpg

Eyebrows frame your face so, brush them through and fill them in a little if you need to!

20120907-194033.jpg

Apply a little more mascara than usual to add a little more femininity and to bring something 3D into your eyes which are usually flattened by glasses! If you have weak eye lashes, get some false eye lashes and cut them in half to add them JUST to the outer corner.

20120907-194046.jpg

Define the outer corners and add a little shimmer for dimension!

20120907-194236.jpg

Contour your cheeks! Try contouring from your mouth outwards rather than from your temple in, if you wear a scarf! Use a really small but fluffy brush (Real Techniques contour brush) and blend using your foundation brush!

20120907-194022.jpg

Keep checking how the make up looks with and without glasses on :)

NAILS NAILS NAILS

20120906-221806.jpg

You guys may have noticed from my manicure tutorial that I like nail art! Something I love more than that is designing my nails after! At the moment, I’m loving soft colours and I’m into Aztec print so anything which has sharp bold lines is a YES!

20120906-221330.jpg

Here’s some nail designs that I love doing!

20120906-221245.jpg

If you’re not too good at doing the hand you write with, do that one first! That way you won’t struggle with doing the opposite hand with wet nails! It’s much easier! Alternatively.. Do it really messy and get your mum to clear it with a cue tip..

20120906-221338.jpg

I’ve used y mum to show you guys that age is but a number and nail art designs are there for anyone who wants to try them! Don’t be afraid to express yourself through your nails! But always look after your hands if you’re not keen on a bald design!

20120906-221321.jpg

Thanks for helping me mum!

20120906-221305.jpg

I used a nail art pen for the French tip on the red tip however, prefer using eye liner! I just find eye liner so much more easier to use! It’s handy and available anywhere an I think most people have liquid eye liner anyway! Just remember to use a base coat when using eye liner otherwise it washes away!

20120906-221954.jpg

The trick to applying perfect nail polish is use as less strokes as possible! Load up your brush evenly and one stride in the middle with two on either side following, follow up with a second coat to even out the nail colour.

False nails are an option too! I recently tried ImPress nails and I was.. Impressed ;) The only thing is that they feel strange and they didn’t last me a week! They taught me though that I use y nails for a lot of things, hence why my nails are tittle and break easily.

20120906-221431.jpg

Also, I have a vast collection of nail polishes HOWEVER, you don’t need thousands of nail polishes! These are some staple colours which I feel everyone should have!

My favourite websites for fashion shopping!!

HELLO GORGEOUS PEOPLE!

So I tweeted my love of some new shoes I wanted to get from Topshop that I saw @persianbpape (twitter) mention! I fell in love with them because they are so different! So thought I’d tell you some of my favourite shops and websites to shop from and what I’m loving there right now!

Topshop
These shoes are definitely like marmite! I love them! I’m looking for work shoes at the moment and general black flats that I can wear! I need to let my feet breathe though, because I’m on my feet for 8 hours of the day (thank you retail), and because of this, my feet get swollen and really hot sometimes! These look perfect! They aren’t too expensive either and look lovely!

Dorothy Perkins
I’m loving these boots from Dorothy Perkins! I love the golden heel and I’m a big fan of suede! They deliver internationally too which is a bonus! I like the black because it’ll go with everything but the small pop of gold gives it a nice edge.

20120816-021914.jpg

These heels are :O! Need I say more! Colours, style, everything! DP are having 20% off sale at the moment on their shoes too which ends tomorrow so hurry up and grab them!

20120816-021919.jpg

eBay
The home of everything! I stopped buying designer things from their stores when eBay came about! I’ve been hearing a lot of hype about Bioderma makeup remover so when I found a seller who had it for a fantastic price, I had to pick it up! I’m waiting for it to arrive but hopefully I’ll love it!

20120816-021924.jpg

There’s hundreds more that I could tell you but I want to do a products of the month review at some point this week!

Also massive blog post about Eid coming up too!!

I live tweeting.. Just call me a bird!

The cruel face of ‘beauty’

This is about to be a full blown rant about a fully stupid yet highly influential topic:

A woman’s image.

Ok! Let’s start!
Today I was reading the paper during my lunch break when I came across an article about a model called Karlie Kloss. It read: Move over, Elle: Karlie Kloss is hailed the new ‘Body’ as she poses nude for Vogue.

I was shocked! How could this skinny, scrawny naked model be called acceptable by publishers, to be placed in a newspaper? I was amazed at the nudity to start with. As someone who covers her modesty from head to toe, to see this was an exposure to the max!!!!!! I know how images can be ‘tasteful‘ but nude models in fashion doesn’t make sense to me? Surely if it’s a FASHION magazine, shouldn’t she be wearing clothes? Somewhere along the line, fashion is now one word: Topshop. Anything sold at TopShop is deemed as the latest trend. But just a few years ago, a fashionable girl was someone who made a unique and workable sense of style. Now it seems as though; messy hair, baggy cardigan, tight leggings and chunky boots is all that Is deemed as trendy.

So yeah, Kloss is completely naked and Daily Mail have claimed that she has a built body? I highly doubt 6 ribs showing replaces a 6 pack of abs! For a newspaper that is always documenting serious consequences of children feeling pressured to look a certain way and not achieving that goal, I’m surprised. Then again I’m not. Daily mail isn’t exactly known as the most ‘culturally diverse‘ magazine: I’ve read the snide remarks about Muslims and Islam and often the blatant disrespect to them. But I thought at stuff like modelling, they’d have some success at leading the right path.

I’ve noticed how news is always bad nowadays and you never read anything good happening in the world. But then to say that a boney model is a ‘must-have’ body, just seems wrong to me. No wonder so many children get bullied these days for not looking a certain way. And because of that, the child suicide rate is climbing too. Just look at Rosey Huntington- Whitely and so many other models who say that they were bullied for their looks and now they’re models. This pressure that is put on women to look a certain way, Not for men, but for the benefit of other women.. Just to show that you are well groomed and look after yourself. Unacceptable.

I’m upset to say the least that this is what it’s come to. To have a beautiful woman have expose herself, or have to lose weight or do anything that doesn’t make her feel herself, is what she HAS to do to fit in. It’s like childbirth is something a woman HAS to accept doing at one point in her life.. Being modelesque is now another.

I think women should be whatever they want! Yeah I cover up, but that’s cause I know underneath that I’m HOT! I’m not being big headed but I am. I naturally like good food and am quitehealthy lifestyle- wise so I’m blessed. But I don’t feel the need to show it off. If I wear baggy clothes and look fat on the outside, I don’t care! At the end of the day, I’m happy with myself. If anything I’m more conscious of my body, cause they say: “you are your worst critic“, so I nit pick at tiny imperfections! But only up to the point where it feels right! If short hair is in, but I think I look good in long, that hair won’t go near a scissor!

I’m not fat and I’m not skinny and I don’t limit myself to looking a certain way. I do my make up how I feel like and I wear what clothes I feel comfortable in. I think every woman should be the same! So be strong! Be brave! If you want to wear all the colours of the rainbow on your face: DO IT! If that is you, then be you!

Wake up every morning, look in the mirror and say:

I Love Myself
