Disappointing products of 2013

20140121-223327.jpg

Although 2013 was a good year for my beauty regime, there were a few beauty products which did let me down a bit! This isn’t to say that they wouldn’t work on other people, but I thought it would be good to show what products don’t suit me!

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Fresh & Flirty Blush – £4.99

20140121-224250.jpg
* When I got this dry shampoo, I was hoping that it would help with ‘hijab hair’ that us Hijabi’s get after wearing a scarf all day! It’s superb at adding a bit of volume and reviving limp hair but it left an AWFUL white cast on my hair! I looked like an old lady! I know they do a spray specifically for brunette’s, so I may just have to try that!

Topshop Cream Blush – Afternoon Tea – £6

20140121-224352.jpg
* With this product, I was so excited to try if after I had bought it because I loved the colour, however, I should have known better! Cream blushes and me have a notorious relationship because they don’t last on me unless I set them with a powder! This was the only cream blush I got this year but I feel as though although its cream-to-powder formulation, it does nothing and wears off momentarily! Was a waste of money to be honest!

Bobbi Brown Corrector – Bisque – £18.50

20140121-224422.jpg
* This was actually more of an impulse purchase which didn’t work out! I was with someone who said they swear by it and because I had heard so much about it, I was crazy to try it however, it took me ages to figure out what colour I was, how to apply it and now.. To finish it! It’s really cakey and thick and also I feel as though the shade is off! It creases really badly and when I try to set it, it makes my under eyes look dry.. Very strange product for me!

Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner – Black – £12

20140121-224507.jpg
* This was one of the first ever products I have tried from Eyeko! I was so excited to try it because I loved using my L’Oreal Perfect Slim eyeliner and really got into the felt tip eyeliner method! However, this was really dry the second time I used it even though I stored it nib face down! It’s really black and has a good applicator but the product was just dry and really hard to revive! It was so dry, it was tugging at my eyes! I’m don’t know if I got a bad one or whether they’re all bad however, I’m still open to trying Eyeko products.. No hard feelings!

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Extreme Plump Pucker – Pink Out Loud – £10

20140121-224526.jpg
* When it comes to lipgloss, last year was a big shiny mess for me! I tried so many glosses ranging from £1 to £20 and by far and beyond, I was disappointed the most by this one! It is Soooooooo strong, it made my lips feel like I had had anaesthetic injections in them! It was really painful and I didn’t feel as though my lips had changed in the slightest in size! When I apply it on top of lipstick, I can’t tell I even have gloss on! It’s a nice colour and has a good finish and pigment, but it’s hard to wear!

Essie Nail Varnish – Russian Roulette – £7.99

20140121-224550.jpg
* This nail varnish colour is AMAZING! I love this red because it’s a true red and not orange nor blue toned! It looks good on any skin tone and is so beautiful to apply! It has a big brush and the colour is super pigmented BUT it stains my nails SOOOOO bad! It took me months to grow out the colour because it just wouldn’t fade off! I never applied a base coat but the staining was so bad, I’m not sure if an average base coat would protect my nails! It’s like war paint!

Clean hands, clean body and soul.. That’s my moto (which I just made up now).

Keeping your nails clean, shaped well and looking natural is also fantastic but if you fancy a bit more colour, look no further than my favourite fall nail polish guide!

I recently went to Boots and picked up some amazing products from Barry M! I mentioned in a previous blog post that they had released some autumnal matte shade nail paints and they looked amazing, so I picked them up too! Take a look at my mini haul!

Autumn nails!

20131101-170827.jpg

I love applying nail varnish in the winter time because it’s a simple way to accessorise and add colour to the deep and dark colours of the colder months!

When it comes to nail varnishes, there is no competition to Barry M nail paints which are my favourite nail varnishes of all time! They smash it with their colour ranges for every season and autumn, is not one they’ve missed! They’ve just released a collection of matte nail shades which all look amazing! So check out their website for sure!

All of their nail varnishes are opaque and often it only takes 1/2 coats to get them perfect and ready to roll out with. They’re as cheap as chips coming in at £3.99 and often even less when on offer. The brush is small so perfect for precise application and it dries in around 1 or 2 minutes!

Have a look at all of these colours that I have in my collection which I think are perfect for the autumn months!

KIKO make up haul

20130908-142538.jpg

Continuing on with my haul from the last blog post, here are the items I bought from KIKO!

The first items I picked up, were these creamy lipgloss sticks. Very similar to the chubby sticks by way of the packaging and product inside too! I feel as though these last a little longer though. They are glossy and are quite sheer too (which is my favourite combination). I chose 3 colours!

20130904-102123.jpg

20130904-102132.jpg

20130904-102341.jpg
** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 102: £6.50

20130904-102349.jpg
** KIKO Creamy Lipgloss in 110: £6.50

20130909-110559.jpg
** KIKO pH lip enhancer in 100: £6.50

These individual eyeshadows also caught my eye after I knocked a few over with my bag in the store! I chose colours that I could wear alone and wouldn’t have to pair up with anything else! The are super creamy and pigmented. They all have a sheen or glitter in them but its not chunky and they don’t have a tonne of fallout. These remind me of MAC eyeshadows with the same type of quality.

20130904-102805.jpg

20130904-102811.jpg
** KIKO eyeshadows in shades (left to right): 166, 116, 133, 148 – £2.90 each

I then saw these lipsticks and the colours caught my eye! I’ve been trying to use lip products more because I feel like changing your lips can change your whole face instantly! When I saw these colours, I knew they’d be perfect for slamming in my handbag and topping up on the go! They’re lovely pink and brown nudes (can you tell which colours I like?). Although they’re sheer, they’re glossy and have a lovely gold flex running through! They’re semi- sheer and really moisturising with a comfortable application!

20130904-103205.jpg

20130909-110341.jpg

20130909-110351.jpg
** KIKO smart lipsticks in shades: 903, 917 – £1.90 each

I’m a sucker for eyeshadow palettes! More so, for KIKO eyeshadow palettes which I own a few of already! I remember seeing these on their website and loving the colours but when I actually tried them in store, I was literally left with my mouth hanging wide open! They are the creamiest and softest eyeshadows in the world! I have never felt such strongly pigmented and rich colours in any product before! They blend so well and look so vibrant it’s crazy! I am definitely going to get the other palettes!

20130908-142017.jpg

20130908-142026.jpg
** KIKO colour impact eyeshadow palette in ‘Bright Night Lights 03’ – £16.90

When I saw this nail varnish, I was intrigued about how it would look. Whilst I was checking out, I saw this sitting there for £1 and grabbed it! The colour is a beautiful pastel blue with a slight purple tinge. The ‘sugar mat’, isn’t so interesting! It’s really gritty and after having it on for only a few minutes, I knew it wasn’t practical! It’s fairly sharp and feels like super hard sandpaper. Moreover, it looks like your nail varnish has major air bubbling going on, so I’m not too crazy about this but, I’ll hold on to it for the next type I’m carving wooden sculptures!

20130908-142254.jpg
** KIKO Sugar Mat nail lacquer in ‘635 Wisteria’ – £1

For all the products I bought, visit their website here. They have excellent shipping and have a super clearance section with their previous collections at mega low prices!

Inglot make up haul

20130908-140852.jpg

Can you believe, I’ve been shopping again? I went into London recently and saw some lovely little make up bits that I had to grab! Take a look at today’s post where I show you what I got at Inglot!

I popped into Inglot because they had a sale on, on their lip, eyebrow and concealer palettes.. 50% off! I chose their 5 piece freedom system palette and decided to choose only lipsticks as I didn’t really need any other stuff (not that I need more lipsticks, though). These ended up being so creamy and pigmented! They look amazing and feel good too! I’ve tried an actual lipstick from Inglot before and it’s one of my favourites!

20130904-095154.jpg
**Inglot AMC 5 roundfreedom palette: £3.50
Lipstick refills in shades (left to right): 29, 56, 26, 03, 62- £1.75 each

I then picked up another lip product by way of the lip paint! This is an uber glossy and moisturising lip stick kind of pot! The colour is the perfect nude for me which adds colour and doesn’t drain me out.

20130904-095649.jpg

20130909-104153.jpg** Inglot lip paint in shade 63: £10

The last few things that I got were nail varnishes! I really wanted some more of the o2m nail varnishes in nude colours that I could always wear! I chose brown and pink toned nudes and they ended up being really nice! I think I’ll enjoy them more in winter though because they don’t seem to look very good with tanned hands.. I have the pink shade (680) on right now.

20130904-095951.jpg
**Inglot. o2M nail paints in shade: 677, 680- £11.00 each

For all the products I’ve mentioned, you can visit their website here. Their p&p is a little pricey and their swatch colours online are a little off though, so I’d suggest visiting the store for a better experience!

Top 5 Revlon products

When it comes to drugstore brands, there is one that that sticks out more than my others for having the best range of all types of products. Revlon excels in foundation (colour stay), lips (butters &lipsticks) and even eyes (grow luscious mascara). It seems as though everything they make, is a best seller.. I agree!

When it comes to lips, their lip butters are incredible! They are pigmented but sheer and they are super moisturising. Because they’re easy to glide on, you can stick these in your handbag and top up on the go. 2 of my favourite shades are the ones below:

20130821-195209.jpg

20130821-195329.jpg20130821-195214.jpg

20130821-195333.jpg

I’m also crazy about Revlon lipsticks! If you’re looking for MAC lipsticks but don’t want to pay as much for them, Revlon do some great ones and in tonnes of shades! You can often find dupes for colours and finishes that MAC have. This pink lipstick is my absolute fave! I love this colour which is a soft pink that looks really nice and neutral. I love building it up and even rubbing it in for less colour on those days where you want to wear little makeup. It’s super creamy and moisturising. It also wears off beautifully leaving a stain, rather than a scummy white like like some lipsticks do! ** beware.. If you have a moustache, this lipstick will for sure make it look prominent (a lesson learnt for me the hard way).

20130821-195736.jpg

20130821-195747.jpg

These eyelashes believe it or not, were the first ever eyelashes I bought! I had worn false eyelashes before, after receiving them in monthly beauty boxes but I had never gone out to look for them until I found these! They are the best lashes I’ve ever tried! There are 4 in a pack and they’re well-priced. I love how natural they look on, how the end wings off but, not dramatically and I also like the thin band. I tried these lashes on many people and they all said they loved the way their lashes looked. If you wear fake eyelashes quite a lot, these are definitely super comfortable!

* Here’s me wearing the lashes recently

Last but by no means least, a favourite product which I’m sure a tonne of people would agree with me on.. Nail varnishes! Revlon are renowned for their wide range of colours and they also have some good varieties too such as their ‘Top Speed’ and ‘Colourstay’ lines. I really like this pink colour shown below. The pink shade just screams summer! It’s one of those shades that adds a splash if colour without being too neon or daring. It’s a lovely coral pink shade. The consistency is so thick and gel like, that one coat usually does the job for me. It really does dry in no time and I’ve noticed how glossy it looks too!

Bourjois Nail Varnish

20130821-010005.jpg

I was recently on ASOS to see what they had new in the beauty department as they often stock limited edition items and I wasn’t wrong. I saw these Bourjois nail varnishes in some of the most lovely colours I’ve ever seen.. I just had to get them!

20130821-010019.jpg

When I received them, I loved the packaging immediately and they really are tiny! But.. ‘Small and Mighty’ are the correct way to describe them. All of the swatches shown are actually done with 1 to 1&1/2 coats and they are opaque! They dry very quickly too!

20130821-010014.jpg

With six mini nail varnishes going for £9, you can’t go wrong! I love them and have no idea which colour to paint my nails, now!

July Miss Glossy Box!

20130722-014425.jpg

So I recently received the Miss Glossy Box for the summer months! For those of you who don’t know, Miss Glossy Box is the second subscription box service that Glossy Box have made which is targeted to a younger audience consisting of drug store and more affordable brands!

20130722-014439.jpg

VO5 Plump It Up Back Comb Spray £3.69
This is a spray designed for those of us who love a good back comb but hate the crispy and stiff feeling that hairspray gives! It smells good and lasts a long time and really does leave a more natural movement to your hair even when you have it back combed!

20130722-014652.jpg

Kiss Nail Wraps in Jewelled Stripes £5.99
I like a good nail wrap every now and again! Although I find some of the patterns very garish (which some would claim this one is too), I think this design is perfect for the target audience of the box! Nail wraps are quick to put on, require no glue and last really long too!

20130722-014706.jpg

Miss Patisserie Bath Fizzy in Starlight £2
When I first got the box, I could smell something incredible coming from the bag! I loved the idea of the bath fizzes in the box because its something I’ve never received in the original Glossy Box! They smell divine and have fun stars in them which float around in your bath!

20130722-014724.jpg

GlossyBox false lashes
These eyelashes are not able to be bought separately however, they are of fairly good quality! Perhaps a bit too full on for the looks that I like to go for, but I like the idea of them! They come with glue too!

20130722-014742.jpg

Beyonce Midnight Heat £29.50
This perfume is a really pungent scent! I wouldn’t say it’s very evening at all! Rather, a musky smell which is bordering on smelling like ‘Grandma trying to be hip’. It’s a shame because I love the original Beyonce Heat which I have a bottle of!

20130722-014825.jpg

All in all, I feel as though this months Miss Glossy Box wasn’t really marketed that well! I think the perfume, lashes and back comb spray were better suited to the original Glossy box, however, there were a lot of full sized products in the box and for the price of the subscription, we all got our money’s worth! I’m just not sure if some of the products were suited well for myself!

You can subscribe to Miss Glossy Box here!
