Make up brushes!

20120904-182551.jpg

When I first got into make up, I used to always wonder what was the best way to apply the make up!

20120904-180753.jpg

I went on eBay and found the most cheapest set of brushes I could find! When they arrived after 4 months of waiting, they were REALLY bad fake MAC brushes made of thorns! I then decided to invest in a brush roll of expensive GENUINE MAC brushes and I fell in love with those! The only thing is, MAC brushes are very hard to get because I have to go into Central London to get them which isn’t a journey I do often. And I don’t like buying online after some bad purchases so I’ve learnt the hard way!

20120904-182527.jpg

I’ve looked in Superdrug and Boots the time and there’s some brands I’ve fallen in love with! Eco Tools and Models Own have some fantastic brushes and Cosmopolitan do fairly good ones too although they don’t last long!

Then Pixiwoo’s Samantha Chapman joined with Real Techniques to make brushes that have changed my life! IM IN LOVE!

They’re excellent value for money an she’s pretty much covered every brush type you’ll ever need!

The brushes I have:
20120904-180806.jpg

  • Blush brush– perfect for blusher, powder and bronzer
  • 20120904-181637.jpg

  • Stippling brush– this brush is perfect for foundation and blusher
  • 20120904-181620.jpg

  • Buffing brush– which is available in the core collection. This is perfect for mineral foundation, powder, foundation and blusher
  • 20120904-181607.jpg

  • Contour brush– perfect for contour, bronzer and blusher
  • 20120904-181630.jpg

  • Detailer brush– perfect for smudging eye shadow/ liner and is fairly good for lipstick/ glass application
  • 20120904-183900.jpg

  • Pointed foundation brush– perfect for…??? To be honey, this is the brush which I’ve NEVER found a use for! I might reshape it though by cutting it and use it as a concealer brush because the point is lethal!
  • The design of the brushes is fantastic and the price is also amazing! The core collection is £21.99 an the separate brushes start from £9.99! Boots often do deals where they do tools at 3 for 2 or buy one, get one half price so look out for them! They’re also available worldwide in most countries!

    20120904-182522.jpg

Want to know how to use the brushes, Sam has an AMAZING make up channel on
YouTube with her sister Nicola and they do fantastic make up tutorials where they use their brushes.

    CHRISTIAN DIOR.. I adore

So we’ve all heard of Chanel and MAC of course!

    20120827-005142.jpg
I always notice the Dior counter at Debenhams and really wanted to get something from their! They had amazing blush colours and of course, their Amber Diamond highlighter is so widely raved about! I have a real love/ hate with powder highlighters though! I really only use them when I can’t find my MAC lustre drops or when I have no will to live! It mainly because powder doesn’t last that long on my skin.. Although it does absorb my recently over- oily skin! There are some great powder highlighters but they just don’t seem to cut the mustard!

    20120827-005133.jpg
I wanted to get something which I knew I would use! I always noticed their powder compact and it felt so soft! In fact.. Every time I went into Debenhams, I would touch their tester and matched myself up to the correct colour too! I caved in today and just went for it! It cost £30.50 but I’m already in love with! I really wanted to test it straight away so I re-done my make up just for the occasion to test it!

    20120827-005149.jpg
The powder is so fine! Even though it’s a compact it has a very loose powder feel to it and I absolutely love the result! The lady at the Dior counter said it lasts all day as uses it when she’s at work because it has staying power! She claimed to not have topped hers up and I went at around 4pm after she had been there from 8am! It looked amazing on her skin!

    20120827-005157.jpg
I really wanted to give it a good hard test so I actually wore into sleep! With no other make up! Not even foundation to hold it in place and when I woke up, my skin was so smooth, even and I didn’t notice any oiliness on my nose like I usually do! It truly leaves a fantastic finish to the skin and is the most flawless powder I’ve ever come across! I’m glad I didn’t get the Chanel loose powder because although that has great reviews too, I wanted to venture into a new brand!

    20120827-010406.jpg
Bad points.. The compact is quite large! I expected it to have some bulk as it is a high end product but I’m not too keen on bulky packaging cluttering up my handbag! I love a decent sized and discreet make up compact in order to keep your touch up a beautiful secret ;)
Another thing is, I only saw 4 shades?? I’m in the shade 001 translucent light! I hope there are more colours though! Darker skin tones need Dior too!!! I suppose because they are transparent colours, they’re quite versatile but I don’t think it’s easy for tanned, olive or mixed race skin tones to choose a shade.

    20120827-005833.jpg
I also have a lipstick from Dior in a very rose coloured pink! It looks fantastic on the lips! The colour is quite frost, but applies with such a nice sheen! It makes your lips look super perky and big! I bought this about a year ago but I’m sure they still sell it! It was slightly cheaper than usual at £19 as I got It whilst it was on offer at Beauty Base but I’m quite sure you can get it anywhere!

Overall, I’m really impressed with Christian Dior make up! They are a really good high end brand, are available worldwide and in the UK are easily accessible as I believe they’re available I’m even the smallest of Debenhams stores!

P.S. they have perfumes called Miss Dior which they do in 3 scents! The yellow coloured one is on my to do list!

My top foundations and liquid highlighters

    20120817-012806.jpg
So, I thought tonight! The blog post would be my top foundations! Inspired by @TanyaBurr who’s a YouTube sensation! I love watching her videos and this month, she’s making a video every other day!

I don’t always wear foundation because my skin has cleared up a lot during recent months! However, I do wear foundation when I feel my skin is looking dull! Which is usually when good old Mr. P comes every month! Yes ladies.. That P!

I use liquid foundation because it is so flawless! When your skin is dull, lacking texture or you need coverage, liquid foundations can really pick your skin up! It’s like a blank canvas to even out your skin!

Mineral or powder foundation is good for when you don’t want as much coverage! If you have oily skin or skin that breaks out, use this because it covers your skin, but doesn’t cake with a heavy layer that stops your face breathing! They don’t give as much coverage but they look really nice and looks like your skin which is perfect for any beautiful lady!

You don’t need to spend tonnes on your foundation and I’m about to show you! I’ll do this in order of highest price to lowest!

    Chanel Vita Lumiere aqua:
This foundation!!! O M G! God was happy when this was made! It’s a medium coverage but quite buildable. Has a dewy finish. Goes on easily. Has SPF. Lasts all day. Smells good.. Bad side.. It’s £31! If you want to splurge though, it’s amazing! I really like it! I would say it’s my absolutely favourite foundation ever just because the price makes it feel luxurious.. It’s Chanel!!! If you can, definitely do pick this up! The only downside I can genuinely think of is it’s high price! It also has quite a good colour selection!

    20120817-010549.jpg

    Nars sheer glow foundation:
THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! It gives your skin the most wonderful glow! Looks truly amazing! I would recommend for normal to dry skin! If you’re oily, avoid at all costs because this will over shine you! I love the way the moisture lasts all day! It doesn’t wear it out! Again a pricey one.. But then Nars is luxury! They have a decent colour range ad it’s definitely one I reach for!

    20120817-010811.jpg

    MAC MatchMaster foundation:
I like this foundation a lot! It’s very different to the Chanel because the consistency, coverage and application all varies! MatchMaster is excellent for people looking for a heavy coverage! I would actually say this is a foundation for people wearing their make up the whole day for a special event! Weddings and parties will now have a flawless queen in them! The foundation glides on but requires quite a bit of blending! The colour range is quite good and as the colour suggests, it does blend in with your natural skin colour! It’s £25 so not as heavy a blow a the Chanel! I would say though, aim to go to a MAC counter or store to get matched up with MAC foundations because you’re never a colour you think you are!

    20120817-010832.jpg

    Bourjois healthy mix/ Bio Detox:
Ok I know I’m cheating but technically not! I always use these two together! The healthy mix is great because it has a really dewy finish.. Only thing is.. It has little coverage in my opinion (almost like a tinted moisturiser) and can sometimes makes my skin look dull.. Even though it gives a glow! Hence why, I use Bio Detox! This has quite a brightening effect in my opinion! Where the healthy mix is easily bendable and glides on, the bio detox you have to blend in, but they both work well together to make a satin-like finish that makes your skin look really bright!

    20120817-010846.jpg

    Rimmel wake me up foundation:
For the price and the brand.. This is the one I reach for on a day to day basis! As well it being Pixi2woo, Tanya Burr’s, favourite too, it’s amazing! It actually lifts your skin up and really brightens it up! It’s £8.99 and I like the packaging too! This contains a little bit of shimmer which doesn’t actually do anything but I think they would sell better without the shimmer cause 80% of people avoid the glitter!

    20120817-010825.jpg

    Barbara Daly moisture foundation:
£7.. £7.. £7! This stuff.. Should be a world record holder! For the value, it’s astonishing! Pick this up from Tesco when you next go and I can guarantee you’ll reach for this every morning! She has lots of other foundations for different skin types! Her colour range is fairly good and I love the spatula applicator cause I’m not shaking the bottle trying to get something out every morning (extra movement in the a.m. Is not appreciated!). The coverage is quite light but you can build it up! It’s so versatile! It doesn’t give a dewy glow at all, and looks like your skin, but better!

    20120817-010839.jpg

    Body Shop Virgin Minerals Foundation:
This is the first ever mineral foundation I got! I have the Laura Mercier mineral powder but Mr. A got it in a compact form which although good, is harder to work with (TBH, he has no clue with make up and I gave him a list where I didn’t specify if I wanted loose or pressed). The body shop foundation is lovely! It’s very fine and looks really nice on the skin. It makes your skin look flawless and gives a brightening and matte finish. It’s quite build able too which I learnt recently.. So rather versatile! Use a real techniques buffing brush with this baby and you’re done!! Must say though, it doesn’t last very long on my skin! Which I think is the same with most mineral foundations! I find it wears off after 5/6 hours so perhaps keeping it in your handbag, would help when you need a cheeky too up!

    20120817-010918.jpg

    L’oreal Lumi Magique primer:
This stuff has changed my foundation routine! Whenever I wear a light coverage foundation or mineral/ powder foundation, I run towards this for an extra glow! It doesn’t appear over-bearing and I always apply under my foundation because I’m not a fan of in-your-face highlight! I love this primer because it works all through the day. I actually feel like it has a 12 hour staying power because on my skin, it never wears off! (rose gold packaging too! Bonus points!)

    Revlon bare it all highlight:
This is my more pinky highlight colour! When I’m feeling like the MAC lustre drops are overpowering, or the Lumi Magique is too cold, I run for this! My mum got this for me quite a while back and I use such a tiny amount, I’ve barely made a dent in it! It’s fantastic as a cheek highlight and for an all over glow under foundation! It’s quite hard to find though, although eBay has a lot of sellers!

    20120817-012754.jpg

So there you go guys! Be sure to check out Tanya Burr on Pixi2woo. She does amazing make up tutorials too! Woo Tanya!

    Make up haul!

I’ve been quite a good girl for a while now and not been shopping too much at all! Then recently I have no idea what came over me and LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY CREDIT CARD!

I was watching some videos on YouTube from BeautyCrush and she had the most gorgeous colour on her lips called San Paulo by NYX! Now we don’t get NYX in the UK (.. Even though it’s manufactured here), so I decided to look on eBay and found the most amazingly valuable seller ever! She has FANTASTIC deals for LOADS of American branded make up and ships to the UK for really good value and is so fast! I promised her I’d mention her on here so her user name is Joy017! Definitely check her out because she is a lovely lady :)

    BEGIN THE CARNAGE!
NYX soft matte lip creams x 6

    20120803-011137.jpg

These are amazing! You can tell from the swatches that their pigmentation is amazing! Now just bare in mind that although they are creams, they do wear off after a while and they turn into regular stains. Do they get stuck in my chapped lips? Yes, the darker colours do but if you top up with lip balm every now and again they’re fine! They’re mega easy to apply with the applicator and a little goes a long way! As well as this, they have so many colours to choose from, you’ll be sure to find one you like.

Revlon just bitten kissable balm stains x 2
    Darling Cherie 010
    Crush Beguin 005

Ah! Stains! The dreaded word in the world of laundry but a god send in beauty! These are lovely! I especially like the purple shade! It has actually started a revolution of purple with me! I can’t believe how easy purple is to wear on your lips! In fact, I think I’ll do a blog post on purple make up :) these stains have serious staying power and glide on! They get stuck in the chaps of your lips but again.. Lip balm to the rescue! Personally, I love stains and I find them perfect to wear when I’m at work and out and about because of their ease and I really like these! The downside.. Not many colours to choose from which I think people would like.. They have too many stains in the pink family but I think having browns and more nudes would be better!

    Body shop
    Colourglide lipstick Garnet 22
    Colourglide lipstick Sienna 72
Extra virgin mineral peder 202 natural vanilla

    20120803-011242.jpg

I love Body Shop and I always have! They always have amazing discounts and their products are such good value for money! These lipsticks are lovely! I especially love Sienna! Definitely a “my lips but better colour” and I love it more cause it only has a subtle sheen to it! It’s lovely to wear day to day! Garnet was a brave choice..
Tip* to sheer out a colour swatch the colour on your hands and kiss it like so..
    OR
Swatch the colour on your hand or straight from the bullet, dab it on your lips! Instant sheerness!

The foundation however, was a serious let down! Disappointment isn’t the word! I don’t like how body Shop put shimmer in everything! Although this foundation only has a slight sheen to it, I would have preferred none! Coverage is little to none and the colour.. I can’t tell if it matches cause it hardly covers! I think they should brand this as a setting powder rather than a foundation cause it does better to remove unwanted oily shine.. By adding shimmer.. Make sense??? I don’t know.. Body Shop.. Sort it out please!
