Eyeshadow Sticks.. Worth the hype?

20140129-164807.jpg

When it comes to eyeshadow, I’m one of those people who has their fazes! I don’t wear eyeshadow every single day but since last year, I’ve been CRAZY about it! I’ve purchased tonnes of new palettes and gone WAY out of my comfort zone with colours! When I found an eyeshadow stick I had got in a Glossy Box a year or so ago, I fell in love with the ease of application and the colour range! So here are some of my FAVOURITE eyeshadow sticks of all time!

Eyeko FAT Eye Stick in ‘Satin Taupe’ – £5

20140129-165109.jpg
This eyeshadow pencil, much like the name suggests is just like the MAC eyeshadow Satin Taupe, which so many people LOVE! This is an excellent way to make your eyes look a little different from the average ‘matte nude’ colours which some of us rely on so much! It’s a gorgeous olive toned brown with quite a strong shimmer running through it! It blends effortlessly, applies like butter and looks like a gorgeous sheen on the eyelid! It’s so easy to wear this as a wash of colour! It also twists up so you don’t need to sharpen it.. BONUS!

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eye Shadow Stick in ‘Paranoid Purple’ – £4.49

20140129-165119.jpg
There was a big rave on blogs and beauty YouTube channels last year about this product and I was so amazed at the reviews! Everyone seemed to love the earthy tones that comes in this line but I was so drawn to this purple shade for some reason! When you swatch it, it’s a beautifully vibrant purple but when you blend it, it darkens up a bit and looks like a gorgeous deep purple with violet shimmer! Again, it blends effortlessly and applies like angels! It doesn’t break the bank either and I’m pretty sure that Rimmel is available in most countries!

Collection Eyeshadow Pencil in ‘Denim Diva’ – £3.19

20140129-165132.jpg
This stick was an impulse purchase for sure! I just loved the blue shade and it was calling to me! Again.. It’s not a colour that I would usually go for but I just fell in love with it! I bought this in the summertime because I knew that it would look fantastic in the warm evenings and I wasn’t wrong! It’s a gorgeous deep blue with a light shimmer running through and it doesn’t fail to amaze me every time I wear it! I tend to steer clear of blues because they often contradict my skin tone however, this looks amazing with just a wash on the lid and then blended with a skin tone colour around the edges! I love the lasting power of this one too!

In conclusion, YES! I love eyeshadow sticks and they have definitely become a new favourite makeup item of mine! I like all these crayon type make up products because they’re amazing for travel! I’ll be going away for a few days soon and know that I’ll have at least 3 ‘stick forms’ of makeup somewhere in my makeup bag! I really like them for their buttery-ness and application because it’s superb! Even drug store alternatives like the ones I’ve shown, they’re great! Definitely a must- have!

SmashBox Master Class Palette

I AM BACK! And with a vengeance! After taking a long break (over a month.. Eek!), it’s time to get back into the flow of things! I’ve been away since my brothers wedding which had occupied me immensely but I’ve missed blogging SO SO SO much, I promise to never take such a long break again!

20131024-173536.jpg

20131024-173617.jpg

To get back into the flow of things, I thought I’d show you a new palette that arrived at my disposal around 3 weeks ago! I had seen this crazy fun-filled palette on a few YouTube channels a while back and so badly wanted it and thought I had missed it because it was limited edition! That was.. Until I saw it on sale at a random shop where it was completely unused! It was meant to be! I then saw on eBay that there were tonnes of these palettes flying around!

20131024-173609.jpg

20131024-173636.jpg

What is it? Meet the Smashbox Master Class Palette (1)! There has since been the release of another but these colours seemed to appeal to me more! This palette is full of eyeshadows, blushes and a bronzer! From a range of finishes including ultra pigmented matte, to uber shimmery glitters, it’s really versatile and so compact too!

20131024-174054.jpg

20131024-174216.jpg

You can see from the swatches that the pigmentation is superb! As well as that, the powders blend effortlessly and seamlessly. There are no lip products in this palette but I would have loved even 1 lip colour to make it an all- rounder- travel- friendly palette! Other than that I have no regrets! For the price I paid, I practically made money!

20131024-174849.jpg

20131024-174859.jpg

The colours are mega versatile and I could use them all year around! What I love is that all the colours are totally ‘me’! I’ve been loving: no eyeliner and just a simple wash of colour over the lid recently.. Just like I loved it last year and this palette makes colour choices simple!

To buy this palette, you’ll have to search on eBay but, there are LOADS available! I don’t want to recommend a certain seller because I don’t want to be responsible for a bad experience (should it happen). However, this palette is limited edition and exclusive to Sephora so if you see it floating around in there, grab it! I really like the second version, too! Happy shopping!

Top 5 MAC products

20130816-192314.jpg

I’ve decided to show you a series of blog posts all about my ‘top five’ items from a specific brand! And what better brand to kick off than MAC?

20130816-192339.jpg

20130816-192344.jpg

20130816-192401.jpg

In my beautiful Z Palette I house the only MAC eye shadow I have and it’s my all time favourite eye shadow! I saw Cranberry from MAC in a video by FleurDeForce on YouTube and fell in love with it! I have brown/green eyes so I knew that this colour would look good.. And I was right! Definitely a strong wedding day eyeshadow choice for me! Cranberry is exactly that.. A red cranberry colour (a deep red) and it has a red glitter flex running through it! Although its a cold colour, I find myself reaching towards it every time I want a pop of colour! It’s not too bold so looks fairly natural (as far as reds go). If you have red eyes, this will enhance them and similarly I find that when my skin is looking dull, it makes me look more tired, so be aware! I love how strongly pigmented and creamy it is!

My next favourite has to be Pink Swoon blusher by MAC. If I could choose only one product to live with, it would be blusher and this one is perfect! I rave about Pink Swoon in so many blog posts because of its versatility and how beautiful it looks on! No matter what your skin tone, this blush will look perfect on you! It looks bright in the pan but its actually sheer so you can wear it lightly or build it up and because it’s so creamy and blend able, it looks natural! I love this blusher! It also looks super nice as an eyeshadow and I like using clear lip balm and then dabbing this on top.

20130816-193503.jpg
Next stop.. Studio Fix badass powder! Again, a love of mine! I think the thing I love most about this is the amazing colour match this powder has to my skin! I picked this up from Madrid at the airport and the lady matched me up to C4.5 and she hit the nail on the head! Not only is the coverage of this powder just like that of a medium coverage foundation, but the texture, blend-ability and pigmentation is perfectly natural! It stays put all day and is perfect for touching up!

Studio Fix powder in C4.5 by MAC – £24.50

20130816-194029.jpg

20130816-193752.jpg
Just like I rave about Pink Swoon, I rave about Cosmo lipstick by MAC! It’s a beautiful nude, rose, pinky brown shade! It’s so hard to explain but I think the cliche ‘my lips but better’ really comes into play here! It looks super natural but the formula is moisturising and it’s super pigmented! It lasts really well on the lips too and even wears off beautifully! I can’t say enough good things about this stuff!

20130816-193756.jpg
Cosmo lipstick (amplified) by MAC – £15

20130816-194035.jpg
OBVIOUSLY, MAC is really well known for their makeup tools as well and my favourite one of them all is the 224 brush! This was a 6-month-ago purchase for me and I’m smitten! The brush is perfect for blending in the crease because of its tampered domed shape! Not only does it work well on the eyes, you can contour, conceal and highlight with this brush too because its that perfect universal size! I like it better than the 217 which I don’t use half as much although, people talk more about that! The 224 is just too versatile for me to ignore!

My new favourite.. Laura Mercier eye shadow palette!

20130124-161151.jpg

So I got this palette during the Christmas time sales at House of Fraser.. Where they had a 10% off day for certain brands! I was immediately drawn to this palette because of the shimmer colours!

20130124-161155.jpg

As I wrote in my last blog post, I’m favouring shimmery to matte at the moment and the colour African… Is absolutely beautiful!

20130124-160956.jpg

The matte colours in this palette are perfect! They have amazing pay off and are like silk to apply on your eye lids!

Have a look at some of the smokey eyes I can create with this palette!

All in all, Laura Mercier eye shadows are AMAZEBALLS!

HUGE MAKE UP HAUL!!!

Ok.. So I’m back!! I was MIA for a whole month because of wedding preparations but unfortunately, we had to cancel the wedding due to some personal issues. We’ll be rescheduling the wedding for another date now.. But that means I’m lean, mean and ready to be a blogging machine! I had done quite a bit of shopping for wedding make up and stumbled upon some great deals during the winter sales! I’ve learnt to buy in bulk is cheaper and so I’ve got some good bargains! Thank God for Christmas sales!

As some of you may know, I’m a big fan of Ruby Hammer Recommends products! I noticed these lip glosses whilst in store but never picked them up! When I saw them online, I just knew I wanted them! They have a reasonable colour pay off but not spectacular. What I like the most is the vast colour range in the pack as well as the consistency which is like water.. Not sticky one bit!

The next is this lipgloss set of 12! It’s by a brand I’ve never tried before called Miss Cole! Also sold at Debenhams! I got these because of the double ended wand which makes it easier to travel with more shades! These glosses have a reasonable pigmentation (not as good as the Ruby Hammer set), and has a good colour range too!

Can you see a pattern yet..? It’s about to get worse! MORE LIP GLOSSES! These ones I got from ASOS in the sale! I’ve been eyeing these from quite some time as I’ve never tried anything from Stila and these looked perfect! There’s a set of 8 lip glazes in this set! The pigmentation is lovely and as the name suggests its a glaze and not too sticky like a gloss would be!

20130115-180254.jpg

20130115-180306.jpg
* One downside is the amount of product you get in the packaging. It took about 40 twists to get the lip glaze to reach the brush applicator as shown in the image above.

20130115-180311.jpg
* Stila Lip Glaze set £18.50 £12.50

The next thing enticed me by the name and I’m glad I got it because its the closest thing to MAC lip glosses that I could find! This set of three lip glosses by Bev Ridge called ‘Distracted by shiny things’ is a set of lip glosses which has amazing pigmentation! I love all three colours and the shimmers are just perfect! Plus.. Look at the lovely packaging! Don’t mind if I do!

The last lip glosses are from the latest MAC collection! The first time I’ve ever bought lip glosses by MAC and I know now I’ve been missing out! These were the original lip glosses that got me hooked into luscious shiny lips! This set of 4 has amazing pigmentation and stays on for so long! They’re comfortable to wear, smell good and I especially love all four colours in this set!

* MAC guilty pleasures 4 cocktail coral lip gloss £25

This Betty Jackson Black eye shadow palette had me from the word GO! I love all five colours and the pigmentation of all the colours in this palette! The packaging is sleek and the colours are so creamy! Although they’re all shimmer, I prefer shimmery colours over matte at the moment and so it isn’t a big deal to me at all!

20130115-182012.jpg

* Betty Jackson Black pressed eye shadow palette £14 £9.80

The very last thing is this Corrector by Bobbi Brown! This is so raved about its crazy and I have to say, I wasted my money! The corrector doesn’t apply easily with a brush and you have to use your fingers to warm up the otherwise, hard product! It doesn’t match my skin well and doesn’t actually correct my discolouration. Also, when I asked the lady at the Bobbi Brown counter in Selfridges London that I wanted to be colour matched, she had no idea what colour was good for me and didn’t have the colour in stock when I eventually matched myself. She couldn’t speak English either :S

An everyday eye look!

Ok so today, I was getting ready and had a really nice smokey eye on! A lot of people complimented me on it and I thought I’d recreate it :)

Start off with cleaning your eye kids with a cleanser, bioderma or even a wet wipe! Believe me.. This will help your eye shadow blend and last much longer!

20121230-201036.jpg

Apply your eye shadow primer. I use a dab of Too Faced Shadow Insurance which I squish between my fingers and apply on each eyelid.

20121230-201042.jpg

20121230-201049.jpg

I’m then going to use a blusher.. On my eyes! Nars Orgasm is a great colour for winter on the eyes! Its a pink with a gold shimmer.. rose gold! You can use your finger to blend it or even a flat and stiff brush!

20121230-201110.jpg

20121230-201126.jpg

Dupe: Sleek Oh So Special palette has a lovely dupe!

20121230-201121.jpg

20121230-201103.jpg

I then clean off the same brush a bit with a wet wipe and dab the brush on the back of my hand to remove excess fluid. I then dip the brush into a medium- dark brown like the one in the same Sleek palette. Most of the sleek palettes have the same colour in them.

20121230-202002.jpg

I apply this on the outer corner of my eye. I build it up slowly to get my chosen amount of shade. Tip** only follow your eye lid shape/ space. Creating a new crease, over reaching, FAKING will not look very nice and it will be obvious it’s not Yo lid Yo!

20121230-201138.jpg

20121230-201142.jpg

Blend each time you add a new layer as it makes it easier to see whether you’ve applied enough. I applied about 3 layers to get this shade..

20121230-201146.jpg

Whatever product is left on the brush, smudge under your eye.

I like to end by using the same blending brush to apply a little more of the rose gold colour to my lid as it adds a more intense colour and blends nicely.

20121230-201209.jpg

Mascara those lids up!

20121230-201221.jpg

And you’re done!!!

Mini make up haul!

20121210-183621.jpg

I recently found some things I had been looking for, for quite some time that I was saving until winter time! Low and behold.. The mini haul..

The first item I picked up from Superdrug! I noticed how although I hardly touch my brows, this harsh weather and the winds do tend to mess up my brows a lot! So I picked up this clear mascara from Collection 2000 which was £1.99! I tested it out and it lasted fantastically and my brows never moved an inch!

20121210-184201.jpg
Collection 2000 Colour Lash mascara in Clear 1- £1.99

I then saw the Maybelline gel eye liner lying there all by itself so grabbed it! It’s in the colour ‘ultra violet’ and is a lovely deep purple colour! I love these gel eye liners because they’re affordable, last ages and look fantastic! I’m so glad I finally got hold of the purple because I’ve been wanting it for a while! It also comes with a lovely brush which I find easy to use.

20121210-183640.jpg
Maybelline Drama eyes Gel Eyeliner in Ultra Violet 10- £7.99

The next item I got on a whim, was this ‘Sleek blush by 3’ palette! It consists of three shades of blushes that you can use lightly, heavily or even blend to create a new shade! I love it! I mentioned in a few posts that I’m loving purple shades at the moment so when I saw this blush which had deep plums as well as a beautiful pop of bright pink, I grabbed it! It’s excellent value for money too!

20121210-184157.jpg
Sleek Blush by 3 blush palette in pink spirit- £9.99

I then saw Zoella from Zoella280390 talk about her love of MAC studio sculpt foundation! I’ve been looking for. Good foundation for quite some time now and as soon as I tried this, fell in love with it! I got the shade NC25 which is a perfect colour match for me but I do have to mix NW25 of my studio fix to match the colour perfectly! Unlike the MatchMaster foundation, the coverage is heavy and not build able. It cannot be sheered down either but for what it does, it’s fantastic and lasts all day! I picked mind up from eBay but this retails for £25.

20121210-184206.jpg
MAC Studio Sculpt foundation in NC25- £11.99

The last item is my favourite and comes in the form of MAC again! After I saw so much rave about this eye shadow I had to get it when I saw a sale on! I had a voucher for Debenhams and they also had a sale on so got this MAC eyeshadow for £3! Cranberry is exactly the colour I’ve been looking for! As someone with green/brown eyes, I thought this would be a perfect colour to make my eyes pop! Perhaps a perfect colour for my wedding day.. Hmmmmmm..

November favourites!

20121203-170410.jpg

With the wedding almost here, I’ve been rocking the ‘no make up’ look to ensure my skin stays clear and that we stay like friends until the big day! Because you can’t cheat a massive zit the size of Everest on your forehead! However, when I have been wearing make up, these are my favourites from last month!

By the way.. I’VE BEEN LOVING EYESHADOW! I’ve been experimenting with different colours and textures a lot this month and have been rocking dark and bright lips too!! Go me! Woo!

The first favourite has to be the L’oreal Lumi Magique primer! This is a lightweight luminescent primer which has an amazing shine! I must say I don’t think it makes my make up last longer but when I wear it beneath my foundation around the centre of my face and when I use it as a highlighter it looks fantastic and lasts all day! It’s a really good size as I’ve had it for months and used it loads and still hasn’t died on me!

20121203-170339.jpg
L’oreal Lumi Magique Primer £9.99

The next big thing for me has been mascara which I think is a staple for most women! When you have those days when you don’t want to wear make up but don’t want to look like you’ve rolled out of bed, mascara is your saviour! My favourite has been Collections Super Size Fake Lash which is brilliant! I have to say, I bought this towards the summer time and opened it so that the liquid would dry out a little because it was too runny! But, now I love it! The brush is a perfect size and I love the way it makes my lashes look! Doesn’t break the bank either.. TRIPLE BONUS!

20121203-170331.jpg
Collection SuperSize lash £2.99

Another good one for November was my Deluxe Crease Brush from Samantha Chapman’s Real Techniques range! It’s fantastic for concealer! Perhaps not so much for the crease as the name suggests! It’s the perfect size for underneath your eyes and to cover up blemishes and is just the correct thickness! It comes in a set with other brushes which are fairly decent.. But that’s a whole mother blog post! All in all, SUPERB!

20121203-170348.jpg
Real Techniques Starter Set £21.99

In coalition with the brush is the Soap and Glory Kick Ass Concealer which I featured in a haul past back in summer! The pot comes with a three step system!
1.) Concealer for brightening under eye area
2.) Concealer for your face
3.) A translucent lightweight powder!
I always mix the two concealers together because the salmon coloured one is almost like a corrector! The brightening one is the perfect shade! They are quite thick and creamy concealers but feel fantastic and used with the Deluxe Crease Brush, they last all day!

20121203-170352.jpg
Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer in medium £10.00

The next favourite has to be a lipstick! And not only that but a MAC lipstick! I love this colour called Dubonnet which is an amplified finish which I think is perfect for the winter! It’s not quite a brown, not red but isn’t maroon either! It looks gorgeous on any skin tone and I love it more than anything else this month! The texture is so creamy and it wears off beautifully too! No crusty lips for me thanks!

20121203-170326.jpg
MAC Dubonnet (amplified finish) £12.60

When I have been wearing foundation it’s MAC MatchMaster which I use in shade 1.0 (the lightest shade). It’s a fantastic medium coverage foundation which is most definitely build able! I love using this because it actually matches in with your skin colour (as the name suggests). It’s lovely and brightening, not drying and comes in a massive bottle! Hooray for MAC!!

20121203-170343.jpg
MAC MatchMaster foundation in shade 1.0 £22.50

As I mentioned, I’ve been loving the eye bling and there’s no other thing is turn to other than my Sleek make up palettes! I’ve loved using every single colour in this palette called Storm! I’ve created looks for day and night from this handy little bundle of joy! It has a lot of shimmers in it but the colours are fantastic! They are extremely pigmented and the palette costs just £7.99 for a palette with 12 colours in! You can use the colours for your brows too!

20121203-170356.jpg
Sleek Storm Palette £7.99
