Disappointing products of 2013

20140121-223327.jpg

Although 2013 was a good year for my beauty regime, there were a few beauty products which did let me down a bit! This isn’t to say that they wouldn’t work on other people, but I thought it would be good to show what products don’t suit me!

Batiste Dry Shampoo – Fresh & Flirty Blush – £4.99

20140121-224250.jpg
* When I got this dry shampoo, I was hoping that it would help with ‘hijab hair’ that us Hijabi’s get after wearing a scarf all day! It’s superb at adding a bit of volume and reviving limp hair but it left an AWFUL white cast on my hair! I looked like an old lady! I know they do a spray specifically for brunette’s, so I may just have to try that!

Topshop Cream Blush – Afternoon Tea – £6

20140121-224352.jpg
* With this product, I was so excited to try if after I had bought it because I loved the colour, however, I should have known better! Cream blushes and me have a notorious relationship because they don’t last on me unless I set them with a powder! This was the only cream blush I got this year but I feel as though although its cream-to-powder formulation, it does nothing and wears off momentarily! Was a waste of money to be honest!

Bobbi Brown Corrector – Bisque – £18.50

20140121-224422.jpg
* This was actually more of an impulse purchase which didn’t work out! I was with someone who said they swear by it and because I had heard so much about it, I was crazy to try it however, it took me ages to figure out what colour I was, how to apply it and now.. To finish it! It’s really cakey and thick and also I feel as though the shade is off! It creases really badly and when I try to set it, it makes my under eyes look dry.. Very strange product for me!

Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner – Black – £12

20140121-224507.jpg
* This was one of the first ever products I have tried from Eyeko! I was so excited to try it because I loved using my L’Oreal Perfect Slim eyeliner and really got into the felt tip eyeliner method! However, this was really dry the second time I used it even though I stored it nib face down! It’s really black and has a good applicator but the product was just dry and really hard to revive! It was so dry, it was tugging at my eyes! I’m don’t know if I got a bad one or whether they’re all bad however, I’m still open to trying Eyeko products.. No hard feelings!

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Extreme Plump Pucker – Pink Out Loud – £10

20140121-224526.jpg
* When it comes to lipgloss, last year was a big shiny mess for me! I tried so many glosses ranging from £1 to £20 and by far and beyond, I was disappointed the most by this one! It is Soooooooo strong, it made my lips feel like I had had anaesthetic injections in them! It was really painful and I didn’t feel as though my lips had changed in the slightest in size! When I apply it on top of lipstick, I can’t tell I even have gloss on! It’s a nice colour and has a good finish and pigment, but it’s hard to wear!

Essie Nail Varnish – Russian Roulette – £7.99

20140121-224550.jpg
* This nail varnish colour is AMAZING! I love this red because it’s a true red and not orange nor blue toned! It looks good on any skin tone and is so beautiful to apply! It has a big brush and the colour is super pigmented BUT it stains my nails SOOOOO bad! It took me months to grow out the colour because it just wouldn’t fade off! I never applied a base coat but the staining was so bad, I’m not sure if an average base coat would protect my nails! It’s like war paint!

November Glossy Box 2013

20131113-190327.jpg

20131113-190450.jpg

It’s that time again.. Time to look at what I’ve received in my Glossy Box this fine November month!

20131113-190748.jpg
Vichy Trio (Idéalia and Idéalia Life Serum)
Having received a sample of this before, I knew what to expect from this cream! The scent is lovely but really overpowering and definitely not for those of us with sensitive skin! However, I do like the serum which is of course, thinner in consistency and slightly easier to wear.. I didn’t notice any differences in my skin from using this though.

20131113-191159.jpg
Scholl Dry Skin Exfoliator
This seems really good and I was so happy it came in a full size! It’s quite gritty but isn’t sharp and leaves skin feeling soft! I think this would be great on any dry skin areas such as elbows or knees too!

20131113-191207.jpg
Elegant Touch Rapid Dry For Nails
I have never tried anything like this before so I’m excited to give it a go. The idea is that you spray this on tower nails and it makes your nails dry in 60 seconds! And again.. Full size!

20131113-191217.jpg
Yves Rocher Elegant Touch Cacao Orange and Chocolate Hand Cream
Ok, let’s not go any further without mentioning the fact that this smells like Terry’s chocolate orange flavour! I tried this as soon as I could and I wanted to eat my own hands after trying it! It smelt truly incredible! It’s not greasy feeling and absorbs almost immediately! This full size went straight in my handbag!

20131113-191225.jpg
Emite Micronized Eyeshadow in Dams
The last full size product and it’s the strangest eyeshadow ever! This cruelty and bad-chemical free eyeshadow is like suede to the touch! It’s a matte black colour with no fallout! The pigmentation isn’t great, but the eyeshadow blends beautifully and creates a really nice hazey looking smokey eye!

September Glossy Box

There’s nothing I love more than receiving my Glossy Box without even realising it’s been a month.. A blessing for the surprise and a curse because I’ve lost another month!

20130913-015300.jpg

First of all, the box is AMAZING! It’s a ginormous Union Jack flag and I can’t wait to display it proudly in my room! The theme for this month was inspired by London Fashion Week and all the products are from brands in the UK. This month came with a unique magazine which was a nice little bit of literature to read on a small journey!

20130913-015227.jpg

20130913-015310.jpg

20130913-015328.jpg
** The products inside are listed in an informative little booklet

Let’s take a look at what was in the box..

The first eye-tem (pardon the pun) that jumped out at me were these self-adhesive eyelashes! I’m a bit sceptical of these but I’m saving to try them on a special occasion because they look beautiful and natural! I don’t know how well they’ll stick, but I’m ready for the challenge!

20130913-015334.jpg
**Eyelure Pre-Glued lashes in 109

The next thing I awed over was this Onyx eyeliner by BeABombShell! It’s a jumbo eyeliner felt tip that makes a super neat line! After I stopped buying L’oreal Carbon Gloss, I never used eyeliner until I bought my first felt tip applicator one! This is highly pigmented and makes a super clean line.. PERFECT!

20130913-015340.jpg

20130913-021104.jpg
** Be A Bombshell Onyx Eyeliner

When I saw this perfume, I loved that I could try it! I saw a favourite YouTuber of mine Shaaanxo mention that she bought this recently and loved it! So when I received it, I knew is like it! It’s a really strange scent. It’s musky, floral, fruity and evening-y! I really like the bottle, too which they’ve designed to look good from whatever angle you look at it from! I love it when I get perfume samples in miniature versions of their full size bottles.. Looks super cute on my vanity!

20130913-015348.jpg
** Elizabeth Arden Untold perfume

I’m not usually too into hair care because I don’t show my hair.. Durr? But I don’t mind a serum every now and again because I don’t always like using conditioner on my hair. I tried this straight away because my hair had just dried and I quite like it. The serum is semi-runny and not too thick and absorbs really well. I applied it to the ends of my dry hair and it gave it a bit of shine and lessened any frizz that I had.. Nothing miraculous and I’m not too keen on the smell but I like the handy size and the bottle comes in a pump.. Bonus!

20130913-015354.jpg

20130913-015400.jpg
** Toni & Guy Classic Shine Gloss Serum

When I saw the next thing, I was quite surprised by the name.. I had heard of this old wives tale for a while no and the idea is exactly what the product name suggests! I like the consistency which is uber thick and it really moisturises well.. However, half of the sample was air.. WHICH SUCKS! But it’s handy because you can carry it in your bag to use on your cuticles, elbows and wherever you get dry!

20130913-015429.jpg
** Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips

My updated skin care routine

20130815-183115.jpg

As some of you guys may know, there are certain skin care products which I have stuck to for a long time now! I tend to get stuck in a rut when it comes to my skin and if I find something I love, I stick to it!

Up until the age of 18 or 19, I had quite problematic skin: acne prone, extremely dry in some areas, extremely oily in others, bumpy spots, enlarged pores, sensitivity. Granted, my acne wasn’t crazy bad, but it was really noticeable on my pasty face!

I changed my basic routine and invested in some products which changed my skin by heaps and bounds but a few months ago, I thought I could still do better and really target the problems I still had, so I changed my skin care completely!

Problems:
Enlarged pores
Oily T-Zone
Sebum filled spots beneath my skin
Dry Patches

20130815-183845.jpg

The first thing that I changed was my moisturiser as that is what is supposed to protect your skin throughout the day and as it stays on your skin the longest, it’s usually the reason for breakouts etc. I was lucky enough to receive an AMAZING moisturiser in my Glossy Box a few months ago! I wrote a mini review here. Premae Harmony Moisturising Creme Balm does not only feel amazing and do wonders for your skin but, it’s an amazing make up base! It’s quite pricey though, so I don’t know what I’ll do once this one is finished.. Should I go in for the plunge? However, you need the smallest amount and it feels like nothing on your skin! It goes matte after applying and makes your pores look almost invisible! No mess, no hassle!
Problems solved: Dry patches, Oily T Zone, Enlarged Pores
** Will link soon as Premae website is under construction at the moment

20130815-183856.jpg

I then went in for the plunge in May and bought a Clarisonic Mia 2 as it had been so raved about in the beauty industry! I had read tens of reviews and videos on YouTube about the effects it had and because all of them seemed to be amazing, I caved! I bought mine from Harrods for £125. It’s not cheap at all but I think about it, as a toothbrush for my face and seen as my toothbrush cost £100, it kind of makes sense! The Clarisonic is basically an exfoliating brush which vibrates at two different speeds (depending on what you choose). It’s supposed to remove dead skin, cleanse and improve your generally skin! It’s INCREDIBLE! Because it has interchangeable brush heads, you can change them to suit your skin type! I’ve already bought the ‘Deep Pore Cleansing’ brush heads however it came with the sensitive head. I never saw results immediately and in fact, have only noticed the results from around July so it takes a while to kick in (may be because I don’t have sensitive skin). I use this one in the morning and if I’m washing my hair, I’ll use it twice that day. It makes your skin feel squeaky clean after use, I have had no spots since using it and my pores are looking smaller and smaller every week! And because it times each section of your face, you don’t have to think and washing your whole face only takes a minute!
Problems solved: Enlarged pores, Dry Patches, Sebum filled spots under my skin

20130815-183903.jpg

With the Clarisonic, I’d like to thank my brother for introducing me to my new all time favourite face wash L’oreal men expert Pure Power Charcoal Wash! I know it’s actually for men but I can’t help but rave about this. It’s very strange in the sense that it’s a black liquid that lathers into a grey foam which helps you to see where the product is being applied! It has a cooling sensation which came in so handy last month when England had a heat wave! It works super well with my Clarisonic and it feels like it’s giving my face a deep clean! I don’t get any dryness after this and I feel like this is also a factor for my smaller looking pores.
Problems solved: Dry Patches, Enlarged Pores

20130815-183914.jpg

20130815-183920.jpg

To remove my makeup, I’ve been using this method for almost a year and to me, it’s fool proof! I’m a baby wipe and Bio Derma kinda gal! I used to use a different cleanser and then wash my face but that made my skin so tight and dry and then cause me to have breakouts! It was all very confusing until I went to France and bought Bio Derma from a pharmacy! It changed my skin in the sense that it didn’t feel like I was over moisturising or over drying my skin. The only thing I’d say negatively about Bio Derma is that it has a film-like residue after you apply it. After using it for a year, I haven’t broken from it so it can’t be that bad but everyone has different skin! I just wish it was sold in the UK as I’m running low! For baby wipes. I just use the cheapest ones I can find and they are these Huggies value pack baby wipes which come with 64 wipes and they last me ages! For £0.99p, you can’t go wrong!
Problems solved:
Oily T Zone

20130815-184017.jpg

For my dry lips, Nivea Creme all the way! It’s cheap, ultra moisturising and I’d consider it one of my holy grail products of all time!

July Favourites

20130802-171927.jpg

This month has been amazing in so many ways: Ramadhan, weather and most importantly.. WEATHER! :) I can’t help but say that the heat doesn’t affect me in the slightest! And so when the sunshine comes around, I’m all over it! I’ve found some wonderful products this month.. So without further ado, here are my July Favourites:

20130802-171939.jpg

Moschino Cheap and Chic ‘Hippy Fizz’ perfume- £21.98
I got this perfume this time last year whilst on a shopping trip with my mum! I had been transferred to a new location for work and they had a Beauty Bay there! My mum noticed this perfume because of the name and when she picked it up to smell it we both just stared at it in awe! It’s perfect.. I can’t even describe anything like it before! It’s a fresh, fruity, citrus scent and it smells good on so many skins! It lingers for ages.. I mean: spray it on your coat and smell it for weeks! It’s affordable too so a bonus!

20130802-172349.jpg

Benefit ‘Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer’- £24.50
I heard so many good things about this primer that I had to get it when I saw it! When it comes to base makeup, my skin is useless! I can wipe my face after a few hours of wearing makeup and there’ll be nothing on the wipe! I don’t know whether my skin absorbs it or whether it just doesn’t hold it well! However, this primer is revolutionary for me! I wouldn’t quite say a 15 hour hold for my foundation but it’s a lot more than a few hours! It feels a bit greasy when going on your skin but doesn’t look it at all! And because its a stick, no faffing with brushes and stuff.. Just slide it on and blend in your foundation on top! One downside: it clings to dry spots on the face so if you have patches of dryness, it will cling on to and enhance them!

20130802-172401.jpg

Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ mascara- £7.99
I love me some mascara! My lashes are ok-ish. I have length but no curl and volume so I’m always on the hunt for a good mascara! I’m prone to a few layers of mascara too because I like the clumpy look on myself! When Tanya from Pixi2woo raved about this mascara, I knew I wanted it! I can relate to a lot of the skincare and makeup advice she gives because we have really similar skin types! This mascara really does look like false lashes! It has a bristle hair type brush which I don’t mind at all and the shape and liquid is just perfect to start using straight away (usually I have to wait a few months for my mascara to dry out). I love this.. Miss. A.. This one is coming your way!

20130802-173205.jpg

Benefit ‘Boi-ing’ concealer in shade 3- £17.50
When I got this concealer, it was a bit too dark for me because I had matched myself up for the summer months but now it matches, I’m crazy about it! It has such a great texture and the coverage is excellent. Although it creases on me if I don’t set it, it lasts ages and looks flawless! It’s creamy and is best applied with fingers so again.. No faffing with brushes! For the winter months, I’ll definitely get a lighter shade and use it then too!

20130802-173211.jpg

Premae Harmony Moisturising Creme Balm- £27.50
I received this in a glossy box a few months ago and never tried it until this month! It’s a balm, so you would think it has a heavy texture and creamy finish but you’d be wrong! Although it’s a balm, it’s really lightweight and blends into the skin leaving a seamless finish. It looks great underneath foundation because it makes the skin matte yet still smooth! You only need a tiny bit of it so this will last me ages!

20130802-173757.jpg

Topshop lipstick in ‘Crystal’- £9
I got this lipstick a few months ago and I really wanted to try a Topshop lipstick because everyone raves about them! I have to say.. I can understand why! The texture is really creamy and they’re long lasting. They have a fantastic colour range too but I chose the sheer pink with crazy glitter in it. This is a pH adjusting lipstick so will look different on everyone but I’m so pleased about the way it looks on me! It’s affordable and good quality!

20130802-173825.jpg

20130802-173831.jpg

Soap & Glory Cheekmate- £8
When it comes to the summertime, you just want to throw on a blush and hope it stays cause it’s too hot to look colourless and I’m too lazy to reapply.. That’s where stains come in. I’m a big fan of stains and in summer, I love them even more. This S&G one is a gel like consistency and is uber pigmented! You only need a small dot of this stuff and it does the job. It looks natural and leaves your face looking fresh! You can see in the picture how naturally it blends in.

20130802-174559.jpg

20130802-174604.jpg

Bourjois ‘Delice De Soleil’ bronzer in 14- £8.99
This shade bronzer is for olive tanned skin and I love how they say which bronzer is best for which skin. So this bronzer is mostly matte apart from a few shimmers but I can’t see them when I swatch it. It looks great because its not too orange, red or muddy. It’s just a perfect bronze colour which looks natural and lovely! Smells really good too!

20130802-174832.jpg

20130802-174840.jpg

Makeup Geek eyeshadow/ Z palette
I’ve saved the best until last here. Welcome to my Z palette! This is basically a magnetic palette which you can put pans into. Be that blush, eyeshadow or whatever, if its got a magnet on it, it’ll go in here! Not only do I love the palette, I love these eyeshadows! These are all Make Up Geek eyeshadows which I got a few months ago! I have a tonne more eyeshadows than this but this is a little neutrals palette I organised! I love all of these colours for summer because they look bronze, shimmery and perfect for creating any look! The eyeshadows are pigmented and so soft and creamy! I feel as though they’re better than MAC and they aren’t half as expensive! The colours:
(Left to right going down)
Corrupt (blackest black in the world)
Peaches and Cream
Cocoa Bear (my favourite)
Glamorous
Latte
Creme Brule
Shimma Shimma
Prom Night
Mocha

KIKO, Maybelline and Essie Make Up haul!

20130711-232529.jpg

I know I’m a little late with my daily blog posts but hopefully, I’ve managed to adjust my routine what with fasting and everything.. So here goes my first post!!

I recently went to Westfield and couldn’t help but stop off at one of my new favourite make up stores: KIKO! They have amazing quality products and for really good value so I couldn’t resist some of their goodies! Fortunately for me, all of the stuff I liked was on offer in their sale section!

The first thing that caught my eye was this ‘Wet and Dry eyeshadow palette in Holi Vibrations’. I bought a few other palettes from this collection which I hauled in a previous blog post and I love them! These colours are perfect for summer! They’re bright but not too bright and the shimmer will look gorgeous in summer along with those lovely pastel colours! They have fall out but nothing major so HAPPY DAYS!

20130711-232614.jpg

20130711-232647.jpg

20130711-232825.jpg
Wet and Dry eyeshadow palette in Holi Vibrations £8.40

Having tried KIKO’s eye products only, I had a little dabble with these gorgeous blushes they have to offer! I had to get 2 because I could choose! They had a few to choose from but I chose the colours that would suit me beat! I like a subtle blush at the moment (a far cry from my previous look) and these have a beautiful finish.. The beige/gold colour on the end is shimmery so creates a lovely highlighted look!

20130711-232844.jpg

20130711-232908.jpg
Colour Explosion multi tone blush in Wild Sienna 01 £5.90

20130711-232918.jpg

20130711-232925.jpg
Colour explosion multi tone blush in Active Mauve 03 £5.90

20130711-233410.jpg

And just as I was leaving the store, these grabbed my attention! When I tested them on my hand, I knew I’d use these constantly! This lovely lips and cheeks product has a lovely texture and is really well pigmented! They haven’t over-done the pigment because its to be used on the cheek too- I suppose they want their consumers to not look like clowns! I love the texture, the smell (like vanilla!). These completely remind me of Sleek Pout Polishes but are so much better.. In my opinion!

20130711-233425.jpg

20130711-233451.jpg
Glow Touch lips and cheeks in Pleasent Pink Azalea 04 £2.90

20130711-233520.jpg

20130711-233525.jpg
Glow Touch in Icy Watermelon 02 £2.90

20130711-233758.jpg

Then I made a cheeky stop to Boots and picked up some non-essential essentials ;)

20130711-233816.jpg

20130711-233924.jpg
Maybelline the falsies blackest black mascara £7.99

Essie Nail Varnish in Russian Roulette £7.99

Let me know what you guys think of this new style of photography!

What products have you tried from KIKO?

Sleek Candy Collection Make Up

20130611-180915.jpg

If you guys have seen my make up collection post or follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I LOVE SLEEK EYESHADOWS (I have almost all of them!)

20130611-181156.jpg

So when they came out with a Limited Edition collection, I couldn’t say no!

The collection consists on their usual 12 colour eyeshadow palette in Candy, Blush by 3 in Sweet Cheeks and Pout Paint in LOL-Lip-Pop (clever, ehy?)

20130611-181010.jpg

The eyeshadow palette consists of 12 eyeshadows ranging in matte, shimmer and pearl finishes! As with all Sleek eyeshadows, the pigmentation and colour range is FANTASTIC! Considering the whole palette comes in at £7.99, even if you only like 1 shade, it’s cheaper to buy this whole palette than a single MAC eyeshadow (even in pan form)!

20130611-181018.jpg

20130611-181022.jpg
I love the pink and purple shades and the shimmer colours are just the right intensity. I find that some brands have shimmer eyeshadows which fade in colour and leave an awkward glitter after them but not with Sleek shadows.. They last on your skin for a long time and fade off beautifully. This palette has not failed to impress me.

20130611-181148.jpg

If I could change anything about this palette, I would have liked to have seen a brown rather than black (perhaps to represent Cola Bottles). Mint Cream and Apple Sour are too similar and there are 3 green toned colours in the palette.. Which they could have swapped with a yellow (to represent banana candy) and because it is limited edition.. How about a pan with 2 colours in it? That would be fantastic too! Just all suggestions for improvement or individuality from other brands!

This Blush by 3 palette is definitely different to what we’re used to because it hosts a cream blush! The colours couldn’t be more vibrant and I love the way they used 3 blushes rather than their individual ones and it costs £9.99 for all three! I love Sleek blushes because of their unique colour range!

20130611-181250.jpg

The cream is so pigmented and isn’t a Cream to Powder formula so is fantastically dewy and has a glow- like finish on the skin perfect for the summer time! The middle colour in the shade Dolly Mix is my favourite because I love purple shades!

20130611-181255.jpg

20130611-181301.jpg

I love Sleek packaging because of its sleek look (oh I see where the name comes from now)! The applicator isn’t something that I’d use for eye makeup but I love using these for nail art!

Sleek are available in Superdrug in the UK and they also have a website where they deliver internationally.

You can buy their collection here.

Beauty products I’m disappointed with

These are the products which have disappointed me after I’ve tried them! I’ve tried them for quite a while and in as many ways as I can and it just ain’t happening!

Benefit They’re Real!
Everyone says such good things about this mascara but I don’t understand why! It works really well at lengthening but it does nothing for volume at all for me! I always have to use a volumising mascara! I thing the formula of the mascara would work better with a bristle brush rattan than a plastic one! I love the spikes on the end to get the inner corners of the lashes though.. When this tube finishes I’m going to use the brush for other mascaras!

20130429-114803.jpg

Sleek Blush by 3- Pink Spirit
I’ve used this for as long as the product has been out and it’s not all of the shades I dislike! Just this one and the only reason is because the two colours (??) are completely identical.. Almost! The payoff and colours are lovely though! It would just be nice for the colours to be a little different to each other!

20130429-114808.jpg

Body Shop- Ginger Shampoo
This is supposed to an anti- dandruff shampoo because ginger has those qualities. I found it mega drying on my hair though! It just seemed to itch my hair and caused me to flake (even when I wasn’t before- I was trying to use it as a defence before I got dandruff in winter)! I like the smell though and I suppose if you have MEGA oily hair, it will help sort out the mane!

L’oreal Caresse Shine Stains- Romy 102
Again.. It’s the colour! It’s a lovely pink colour but I just found the actual shade to be different than the packaging shows! I like the formula (although it doesn’t last all day) but I’m sure the other colours are good as everyone raves about these! I’ll be sure to get another shade and tell you what I think!

GOSH BB Corrector kit- Light
This has to be the most disappointing product of all of my collection! This concealer kit is supposed to have BB qualities and comes with 3 products, an underage & blemish concealer as well as a highlighter. I found the products to be too watery and they did nothing! The highlighter was the worse! I think I’ll just scoop some of this into my moisturiser for a tint on the ‘natural make up’ days!

Benefit Cha Cha Tint
This tint is more of a gel consistency rather than a liquid and I love the texture. I’m not too sure of the product though! I found that it stuck to my face wherever I first placed it and it dried as soon as it touches skin so I couldn’t blend it! For the price.. A NO NO!
