Christmas nails!!

20121223-232414.jpg

With the holiday season and so many preparations going on, the short days with daylight saving are proving no good for our nails!

I’ve always done my nails before I go to bed whilst I drink my hot chocolate and they always dry before I drift off to sleep, so I thought if show you guys how I do my nails tonight, preparing for all the events I have planned for the coming Christmas week!

You’ll need but a few tools and the process is simple and easy! Read until the end to see what my twist is on this pretty common nail look.

One of the most common colours for Xmas time is red. But with so many people wearing black and elegant dark dresses, Grey is the perfect alternative to a normally common red colour. It looks good on even short nails as mine are and it’s so easy to wear, no matter what your skin tone. I love this shade called Hazy by Rimmel because its creamy and rich.. Plus it’s speed dry so perfect for using before bed so you don’t sleep and scratch it!

Here’s some easy to follow steps:
1. Use a nail file to clean your nails out of the grub like stuffing and cake.

20121223-225441.jpg

2. Cut your nails if you need to but personally I have never cut my nails and I only ever file them because nails get brittle when you cut them.

20121223-225431.jpg

3. File your nails to a shape which you like and for me that’s square shape because it makes your fingers look longer and slimmer. I like using metal files because they are so quick to use and don’t wear out.

20121223-225457.jpg

4. Lets start with the nail varnish and I always use a base coat! My favourite at the moment is the Sally Hansen Miracle Nail Thickener because its a nice thin and shiny layer beneath your nails which works to make your nails stronger.. Perfect for my weak nails!

20121223-225508.jpg

20121223-225516.jpg

5. The colour process begins! I start with a thin layer of colour and paint one whole hand and then move on to tj next, I then go on to the second layer after I’ve finished the other hand. Two coats is more than enough!

*2 coats of nail varnish

*I like to cut my cotton buds/ cue tips in half to clean up my nails with

6. I then like to use a top coat because it helps to keep the polish on for longer. I got this Nails Inc. caviar top coat in a glossy box and like it because it dries fairly quickly and improves the longevity of my nail varnish for a few extra days which is perfect for someone like me.

7. My twist.. GLITTER! Everyone loves glitter! And I love this glitter by Rimmel because its small and matches my nail varnish perfectly! By just adding this into the tip, it gives just a hint of sparkle without the whole BANG of disco ball ;) pun intended!

20121223-225158.jpg

And that’s it! Stick two coats of the glitter on though.. Because I like it doubled up..

AUTUMN/FALL FAVOURITES!

After summer, the next best season for my has to be Autumn! I love the feeling of being cosy and warm inside with a nice cup of something warm!

20121112-225405.jpg

And there’s a few things I always make sure I have in the colder months!

A hot drink, and for me that has to be a gorgeous Chai Tea Latte! Whenever I go out, I always get one! To be honest I’m not fussy about where from and I’m not a Statbucks junkie so anywhere that sells it, will have me in there! I love spivey food (OBVIOUSLY! I’m Asian) and so having a coffee drink with a bit of something different in it.. Really warms you up!

20121112-224335.jpg
** During the winter months, coffee shops release seasonal inspired drinks, so don’t be afraid to try something new!

A shnuggly night suit! If you know me, you know I love my night suits and I found THE BEST night suit in the world from Next (A UK retailer) who have this AMAZING night suit in their collection at the moment! It’s warm, fussy and looks so nice!

20121112-224433.jpg
**Avoid cotton in the colder months! It’s just not shnuggly enough!

A clean and cosy environment always helps to make you feel a little better when you’ve spent a hard day in the cold! For me, Autumn means getting some autumnal warm bedding, throwing on a few more cushions than usual in my bed and making sure everything is in its place! So when you come home from a hard day at work, your bedroom is cosy, warm and fresh!

20121112-225409.jpg
** Don’t try to start tidying your whole room within 1 day! Take it step by step and rather than stressing yourself out with a time limit, use it as a therapeutic method to de-clutter and de-stress your room.. And mind!

Changing my make up to autumnal colours always helps! I put the hot pinks and bright blues away to use darker and deeper shades! I love plum, dark brown and for a flash of an acceptable colour, lilac! Changing your nails really helps to spice up the whole look!

20121112-224734.jpg
** Lilac is a colour you can wear all year round so if you love your brights just a little too much, don’t be afraid of some purple loving!

The wardrobe also takes a dramatic change! I love colour, but the wearing bright yellow just makes me feel weird when it’s freezing outside! My colour for this years fall time is OXBLOOD! Red is my favourite colour and I love any shade of it! I think no matter what your age, race and where you live, oxblood is your perfect colour for autumn!

20121112-225124.jpg
** Start layering with your items! Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and materials cause that’s really fashionable at the moment!

U.A.E

U.A.E! The first country to have succeeded in my ‘talk of my top 5 views’!

20120829-211451.jpg

In particular, I’ll talk about Dubai as I went there recently! I’ll show you the things I bought as well as some pictures I took whilst there!

Ok.. So we recently had a tough time at the beginning of the year.. My brothers wedding got called off after 2 years of planning and of course.. He was distraught! Moreso than him, my mum was quite hard on herself and took the blame even though it wasn’t her fault.. The solution.. A secret holiday! Planned by my trust Mr. A and cousin Miss. A! I discussed which location to go to and it was tough! We kind of started off in the European region but my brother has seen so much of it, we decided against it! My cousin then said that Dubai was a brilliant place! Mr. A practically lives there and recommended it for sure! Literally, the whole concept, planning and booking happened in a few hours one night!

I told my brother from the get- go because I wasn’t entirely sure he’d want to go.. But he was happy to comply! My brother realised that my mother was down about the whole situation so we decided to surprise her! And that.. We did! Miss. A got involved and with a bunch of balloons and BIG bouquet of flowers, mum was in disbelief that she was going to Dubai!!

20120829-211440.jpg

This all happened the day before we were meant to leave for our holiday! Mum told all her friends, we cracked on with the packing and away we went! I was so excited I couldn’t sleep! My favourite holidays are near the beach and I’m definitely a city girl! But this was UNREAL! When we arrived in Dubai.. THE SUN! THE FRESH BREEZE! THE CLEANLINESS! It was amazing! There’s no feeling like when you’re walking through the plane isles to a new country.. And you haven’t even moved!

We arrived the morning and were fairly hungry so made good use of the hotel! Dubai is fairly small so our hotel was nearby to everything (located in Bur Dubai)! We found a small Paul’s cafe and that would be our stop for a few days every morning! Breakfast was at our hotel, but snacks and pit stops were there!

20120829-211404.jpg
The first day of arrival, as went to the beach! Oh My God! To all my fellow UAE readers.. You should be so grateful to have the most beautiful beach at your finger tips! I was in awe of the beautiful warm weather, the soft sand and the cool ocean! As soon as we went to the beach.. I could see the relief on the faces of my brother and mother! Like a weight had been lifted off! We found an ice cream man who would be our new addiction supplier (ICE CREAM) and we stayed at the beach until sunset! It was absolutely beautiful!

20120829-211400.jpg

Dubai mall as amazing because of the sheer size of it! I’m used to the size though because Westfiels shopping centre in London is quite big as well! Of course.. The main attraction of Dubai Mall is the massive building stuck on the side! Burj Khalifa was amazing! It is so big.. You have to stand quite a way back to see it! I thought it was really attractive and we looked like typical tourists just gasping at it and giggling as we tried to take pictures of us ‘touching the top’ LOL!

20120829-211350.jpg

Of course! Done quite a bit of shopping but more so than the shopping, we took advantage of the fact we could eat ANYTHING there because it was all halal! Tony Roma’s, Chillis, McDonalds! WOO! I’m a real food person and for me, having a lack of food whilst on holiday usually dampens it but I was very happy! One thing.. When we went to the Emirates Mall, we ventured into Chilli’s where my mum found a spider in her food :O LITERALLY! The manager tried to say it was a mushroom but mum knows a spider leg when she sees it.. The whole situation was handled badly! But we then went to Chilli’s in BurJaman and we LOVED the refreshing mocktails!

20120829-211417.jpg

On to the pictures some more pictures!

20120829-211423.jpg

The gold market was amazing! There was so much GOLD! Of course.. I has told mum about this so he bought her old gold and the jewellers were happy to do us a good deal in order to get some new bling!

20120829-211355.jpg

If I could have changed anything.. Rent a car! We had problems with regards to taxi’s etc just because they cost so much! Also, we should have gone to Abu Dhabi because everyone said that is a must see!

The people there were so friendly but obviously they’re used to getting tourists who don’t speak a word of their language! The taxi drivers were friendly and when we left something in a taxi, the driver came to find us to return our shopping back to use and we were so happy!

Thank you for the trip of a lifetime, UAE!

How to manicure at home

20120805-180957.jpg

Well hello my little DIY-ers :) time for do a Do It Yourself manicure I think!
I’m going to be using tools and tips so easy to get, you’ll be parading your beautiful hands at every occasion!

The first thing you need to do is ensure your hands are clean! Not only for hygiene but because the water helps to soften the nails and skin a bit so it’s easier to file an shape them! Dry them thoroughly and then we can begin!

20120805-181123.jpg
Grab yourself a nail cutter. My nail cutter also has a nail file built into it but use any you like! You want to cut your nails using the corner of the cutter! Don’t slot your whole nail into the cutter because your nails will snap, be uneven and you’ll cut off more than.. You can chew? EW! Use the tip of the nail cutter and cut off small bits of the nail at a time. I don’t like nail cutters with a rounded tip because my nails actually grow square shaped so circular nail cutters are no good but use whatever ones suit your nail shape!

20120805-181554.jpg
Once you’ve cut your nail, time to file them and smooth out any rough edges! I prefer using individual nail files because I can take them with me anywhere incase I chip a nail and because it’s easier to manoeuvre and hold. When filing, ensure you have a firm grip but gentle motion and only file in one direction (THAT’S WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL). This prevents your nails becoming brittle.. Like mine are. When I file, I file the base of my nail flat so I can get a nice, clean and straight edge at the base of my nail.

20120805-181505.jpg
The edges of my nail can sometimes get uneven and quite jagged as shown below, so I file straight down and press against my nail to ensure a smoother edge.

20120805-181625.jpg
I then grab the end of the file and push my cuticles back. My nails are quite short in the sense that when I grow my nails, the white tip of the nail is quite large so by pushing back my cuticles, it evens out my whole nail. You need to push down on the nail and gently push back in a rocking motion ensuring the skin at the back of your nail forms a smooth round edge with no excess skin on the nail.

You then want to grab a nail file to clean your nails as all this filing will have left quite a lot of dirt in your nail.

20120805-181801.jpg
At this point your nails will look butchered (London lingo) and worse for wear. I then grab myself the nail cutters again and any excess dry skin or bits of nail that need to be cut, I cut off.

20120805-181242.jpg
Last but not least, grab a cue tip or cotton bud and dip it in a oil of your choice. I used baby oil because it’s inexpensive but you can use cuticle oil and I rub this all over my nails and absorb it with my fingers..

20120805-182149.jpg

  • I have said gently quite a lot! Why? Because nails are very sensitive, so don’t e rough with them. You already endure quite a lot of hardship on your hands and nails during your day to day life.
  • I do this once a week and usually on a Sunday so my hands are ready for the week. However, I clean my nails every day!
  • If you want to paint your nails after, don’t use the oil as your nail varnish won’t go on as well.
