I know it’s Autumn, so it’s time for fake tan to be out down.. But I still love being a little but more colourful than my natural skin tone! If you like having a bronze look about you, here are some of my favourite bronzers!
So we’ve all heard of Chanel and MAC of course!
I always notice the Dior counter at Debenhams and really wanted to get something from their! They had amazing blush colours and of course, their Amber Diamond highlighter is so widely raved about! I have a real love/ hate with powder highlighters though! I really only use them when I can’t find my MAC lustre drops or when I have no will to live! It mainly because powder doesn’t last that long on my skin.. Although it does absorb my recently over- oily skin! There are some great powder highlighters but they just don’t seem to cut the mustard!
I wanted to get something which I knew I would use! I always noticed their powder compact and it felt so soft! In fact.. Every time I went into Debenhams, I would touch their tester and matched myself up to the correct colour too! I caved in today and just went for it! It cost £30.50 but I’m already in love with! I really wanted to test it straight away so I re-done my make up just for the occasion to test it!
The powder is so fine! Even though it’s a compact it has a very loose powder feel to it and I absolutely love the result! The lady at the Dior counter said it lasts all day as uses it when she’s at work because it has staying power! She claimed to not have topped hers up and I went at around 4pm after she had been there from 8am! It looked amazing on her skin!
I really wanted to give it a good hard test so I actually wore into sleep! With no other make up! Not even foundation to hold it in place and when I woke up, my skin was so smooth, even and I didn’t notice any oiliness on my nose like I usually do! It truly leaves a fantastic finish to the skin and is the most flawless powder I’ve ever come across! I’m glad I didn’t get the Chanel loose powder because although that has great reviews too, I wanted to venture into a new brand!
Bad points.. The compact is quite large! I expected it to have some bulk as it is a high end product but I’m not too keen on bulky packaging cluttering up my handbag! I love a decent sized and discreet make up compact in order to keep your touch up a beautiful secret ;)
Another thing is, I only saw 4 shades?? I’m in the shade 001 translucent light! I hope there are more colours though! Darker skin tones need Dior too!!! I suppose because they are transparent colours, they’re quite versatile but I don’t think it’s easy for tanned, olive or mixed race skin tones to choose a shade.
I also have a lipstick from Dior in a very rose coloured pink! It looks fantastic on the lips! The colour is quite frost, but applies with such a nice sheen! It makes your lips look super perky and big! I bought this about a year ago but I’m sure they still sell it! It was slightly cheaper than usual at £19 as I got It whilst it was on offer at Beauty Base but I’m quite sure you can get it anywhere!
Overall, I’m really impressed with Christian Dior make up! They are a really good high end brand, are available worldwide and in the UK are easily accessible as I believe they’re available I’m even the smallest of Debenhams stores!
P.S. they have perfumes called Miss Dior which they do in 3 scents! The yellow coloured one is on my to do list!
I don’t always wear foundation because my skin has cleared up a lot during recent months! However, I do wear foundation when I feel my skin is looking dull! Which is usually when good old Mr. P comes every month! Yes ladies.. That P!
I use liquid foundation because it is so flawless! When your skin is dull, lacking texture or you need coverage, liquid foundations can really pick your skin up! It’s like a blank canvas to even out your skin!
Mineral or powder foundation is good for when you don’t want as much coverage! If you have oily skin or skin that breaks out, use this because it covers your skin, but doesn’t cake with a heavy layer that stops your face breathing! They don’t give as much coverage but they look really nice and looks like your skin which is perfect for any beautiful lady!
You don’t need to spend tonnes on your foundation and I’m about to show you! I’ll do this in order of highest price to lowest!
Chanel Vita Lumiere aqua:
This foundation!!! O M G! God was happy when this was made! It’s a medium coverage but quite buildable. Has a dewy finish. Goes on easily. Has SPF. Lasts all day. Smells good.. Bad side.. It’s £31! If you want to splurge though, it’s amazing! I really like it! I would say it’s my absolutely favourite foundation ever just because the price makes it feel luxurious.. It’s Chanel!!! If you can, definitely do pick this up! The only downside I can genuinely think of is it’s high price! It also has quite a good colour selection!
Nars sheer glow foundation:
THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! It gives your skin the most wonderful glow! Looks truly amazing! I would recommend for normal to dry skin! If you’re oily, avoid at all costs because this will over shine you! I love the way the moisture lasts all day! It doesn’t wear it out! Again a pricey one.. But then Nars is luxury! They have a decent colour range ad it’s definitely one I reach for!
MAC MatchMaster foundation:
I like this foundation a lot! It’s very different to the Chanel because the consistency, coverage and application all varies! MatchMaster is excellent for people looking for a heavy coverage! I would actually say this is a foundation for people wearing their make up the whole day for a special event! Weddings and parties will now have a flawless queen in them! The foundation glides on but requires quite a bit of blending! The colour range is quite good and as the colour suggests, it does blend in with your natural skin colour! It’s £25 so not as heavy a blow a the Chanel! I would say though, aim to go to a MAC counter or store to get matched up with MAC foundations because you’re never a colour you think you are!
Bourjois healthy mix/ Bio Detox:
Ok I know I’m cheating but technically not! I always use these two together! The healthy mix is great because it has a really dewy finish.. Only thing is.. It has little coverage in my opinion (almost like a tinted moisturiser) and can sometimes makes my skin look dull.. Even though it gives a glow! Hence why, I use Bio Detox! This has quite a brightening effect in my opinion! Where the healthy mix is easily bendable and glides on, the bio detox you have to blend in, but they both work well together to make a satin-like finish that makes your skin look really bright!
Rimmel wake me up foundation:
For the price and the brand.. This is the one I reach for on a day to day basis! As well it being Pixi2woo, Tanya Burr’s, favourite too, it’s amazing! It actually lifts your skin up and really brightens it up! It’s £8.99 and I like the packaging too! This contains a little bit of shimmer which doesn’t actually do anything but I think they would sell better without the shimmer cause 80% of people avoid the glitter!
Barbara Daly moisture foundation:
£7.. £7.. £7! This stuff.. Should be a world record holder! For the value, it’s astonishing! Pick this up from Tesco when you next go and I can guarantee you’ll reach for this every morning! She has lots of other foundations for different skin types! Her colour range is fairly good and I love the spatula applicator cause I’m not shaking the bottle trying to get something out every morning (extra movement in the a.m. Is not appreciated!). The coverage is quite light but you can build it up! It’s so versatile! It doesn’t give a dewy glow at all, and looks like your skin, but better!
Body Shop Virgin Minerals Foundation:
This is the first ever mineral foundation I got! I have the Laura Mercier mineral powder but Mr. A got it in a compact form which although good, is harder to work with (TBH, he has no clue with make up and I gave him a list where I didn’t specify if I wanted loose or pressed). The body shop foundation is lovely! It’s very fine and looks really nice on the skin. It makes your skin look flawless and gives a brightening and matte finish. It’s quite build able too which I learnt recently.. So rather versatile! Use a real techniques buffing brush with this baby and you’re done!! Must say though, it doesn’t last very long on my skin! Which I think is the same with most mineral foundations! I find it wears off after 5/6 hours so perhaps keeping it in your handbag, would help when you need a cheeky too up!
L’oreal Lumi Magique primer:
This stuff has changed my foundation routine! Whenever I wear a light coverage foundation or mineral/ powder foundation, I run towards this for an extra glow! It doesn’t appear over-bearing and I always apply under my foundation because I’m not a fan of in-your-face highlight! I love this primer because it works all through the day. I actually feel like it has a 12 hour staying power because on my skin, it never wears off! (rose gold packaging too! Bonus points!)
Revlon bare it all highlight:
This is my more pinky highlight colour! When I’m feeling like the MAC lustre drops are overpowering, or the Lumi Magique is too cold, I run for this! My mum got this for me quite a while back and I use such a tiny amount, I’ve barely made a dent in it! It’s fantastic as a cheek highlight and for an all over glow under foundation! It’s quite hard to find though, although eBay has a lot of sellers!
So there you go guys! Be sure to check out Tanya Burr on Pixi2woo. She does amazing make up tutorials too! Woo Tanya!
Remember, I’m all into social networking at the moment!
I thought I’d do a tag which I’ve seen around quite a lot lately ‘Most worn beauty products’! Something which was was originally ‘most worn items’ but I adapted! PersianBabe was the first person I saw do the tag on her YouTube channel: http://m.youtube.com/user/thepersianbabe
I love her! She’s such a nice person and I like the fact she talks about real things and how she genuinely feels about them. It’s like she doesn’t have thousands of subscribers, but just likes chatting away to herself to a camera! Her innocence is so admiring!
Ive divided my tag with two products with one high end and the other low end! So you get a feel for both ends of the spectrum!
Let’s begin the tag!
Favourite eye shadow:
Low end is Sleek Au Naturel palette and I’ve swatched my favourite colours! Most of these colours are matte however, there are some gorgeous shimmery colours! As usual.. Sleek has managed to make some colours a bit too chalky such as the buttery yellow at the top and this means it has excessive fallout but generally the colours are gorgeous and you can use this palette day and night!
Too tip* to check the quality of a product, swatch the darkest colour in the palate to check its pigmentation! This gives you some knowledge about how vibrant the colours are and whether they apply the same colour as they appear in the packaging! Just look at that black in the Sleek palette! IT’S ASTONISHING!
The Elizabeth Arden palette is one I got in a gift set but I can’t rave about this product enough! I love the colours! I love the finish! I love the texture! I would never buy eye any shadows that cost more than £6 for 1 shade because of what sleek has done for me (you get 12 colours for £6.49), but this was in a set with loads of other products!
Most worn blusher:
The first is actually an eye shadow colour by collection 2000 (now just Collection)! It’s in the colour Viva Vegas 06 and I LOVE IT! It’s a bright vibrant hot pink with purple and blue undertones! This is what got me into purple! It looks fantastic on the cheeks and yes it’s safe to use on cheeks! (Anything you can use on your eyes can be used on cheeks too). It looks great for a pop of colour if used with a heavy hand and gives a gentle flush with a light hand! I think it’s versatile! No matter what colour your skin is, this blush will look amazing on your beautiful face!
Daniel Sandler watercolour blush! This stuff is the weirdest most brilliant thing in the world! Literally the blush is a water.. The blend ability of this blush.. AMAZING! I’ve got some other Daniel Sandler products too but this blows all other blush textures out the water ;) (no pun intended)! It looks amazing! It has a slight sheen to it but nothing major and looks great because it’s a water and so soft! It’s like putting LOVE on your face! I like the sound it makes when applying on your skin.. Is that weird?? I can’t help it! Only downside is.. longevity is RUBBISH! Liquids don’t do well on my skin but it’s quite small so I don’t mind carrying it round for top ups :)
Most worn lip products:
The Body Shop lip smackers are amazing! I have always loved Body Shop lip products like the tubs of lip balm (especially strawberry) but I like this more because it’s a tube! The flavour is incredible! My favourite is Pomegranate and especially because it leaves the most amazing red tint to your lips! It’s moisturising and lasts on your lips along time! I get so many compliments when I wear this because it looks good and smells good.. Sorted!
MAC lipsticks.. Need I say more! The shade Angel is no given and is probably one of MAC’s most popular lipsticks! Not least because Kim Kardashian wears it too and naturally, I love anything she wears! This has a lovely creamy formula and I LOVE THE SMELL! It drives me insane because it reminds me of something I used to love as a kid but can’t put my finger on the smell.. Hmmmmm! Anyway.. This shade.. I love it! It’s a rosy pink but not too bright so is very wearable.. Lasts all day.. Looks great!
Most worn bronzer:
You cant get more value for money than the Sleek Contour kit and especially because you get two products in one! The contour colour is excellent because it’s not too muddy so for all the pale people out there who don’t want to look orange, it’s definitely the one for you! As well as that.. They have it in three shades.. Light, medium (which I use to darken up a bit) and dark (which could probably could be darker to be honest)! It’s got a fantastic highlighter in it too and I love the shimmer.. Even though I’m not usually keen on shimmery bronzers!
Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel! You knew it was coming! I love using this bronzer with my Real Techniques Contour Brush in the hollows of my cheeks.. BEFORE applying my foundation! Sometimes this can look orange and I don’t want to look Tango’d so this is a method that works for me but this is definitely a must try product! Get a sample if you can because it lasts ages an you can then find an application method which suits you.. And it’s universal for any skin tone.. BONUS!
Most worn nail varnish:
I don’t really own high end nail varnishes so I just chose two of my favourites! I love the Maybelline one because it’s such a beautiful colour and lasts for AGES on my nails! I’m quite a hands on person (leave out the dirty jokes ;)), so I like my nail varnishes to last long! This is the perfect pastel link that can be worn in Spring, Summer and even for a light flush of colour in Winter!
The Rimmel colour is one of my favourite reds! It lasts ages on my nails, dries in less than 60 seconds, I find and I think it’s perfect for Autumn, Winter and with a bit of nail art, Summer too!
Most worn foundation:
This has to be the best find of the century for me.. BARBARA DALY! You’ve made my life beautiful! This foundation is a moisture foundation and I’m in the shade Almond! I don’t think it has excellent coverage and nor do I think it helps my skin.. But it’s the perfect amount of daily coverage and it’s glides on your skin! It dries on your skin instantly and costs £6! You can’t go wrong with it! She does a few different types but I like the moisture one cause it gives an extra sheen although it dries fairly matte (second picture above shows how semi- matte it is)
Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua is one of my all time favourite foundations! Although I’ve been matched up to shade 40 (WAY too dark), it’s perfect for when I bronze up a but with some fake tan! I love this foundation because it makes your skin look healthy, feels amazing on the skin, smells good and glides on beautifully! I think the best thing in foundations is when they blend like a dream because it’s used all over your face, so if it doesn’t blend, it’ll look awful!
Always look for samples for sample for high end products! Don’t be afraid to ask! If you’re about to pay £30 for a foundation, you want to make sure it’s worth it! If you’re at a drugstore, test the product! In the UK this is easier as we get testers but in the US, look for reviews on the Internet!
